Learn about Ranked Choice Voting

Ranked Choice Voting is a simple change to the way we vote..........you can rank multiple candidates in the order you prefer them.  Benefits include eliminating the "spoiler effect" to elect a candidate who appeals to a broad base of voters; encouranges voters to choose their true favorite, without settling for the "lesser of two evils"; encourages more candidates to run for office without fear of vote-splitting; rewards candidates who reach beyond their base to find common ground with more voters; tempers intra-party tensions during contested primaries and choosing nominees with a mandate from party voters; eliminates the need for costly, low-turnout preliminary elections for city offices.

Find out more about Ranked Choice Voting by coming to the presentation on Thursday, July 12th at 10:30.  All welcome!

APCC Speakers Series: Author Susan Freinkel

The Association to Preserve Cape Cod's 50th Anniversary Speakers Series continues with a presentation by journalist Susan Freinkel, author of Plastic: A Toxic Love Story.

Description: Plastic built the modern world. But a century into our love affair with plastic, we’re starting to realize it’s not such a healthy relationship. Plastics draw on dwindling fossil fuels, leach harmful chemicals, litter landscapes, and destroy marine life. As Freinkel points out in this engaging and eye-opening book, we’re nearing a crisis point. We’ve produced as much plastic in the past decade as we did in the entire twentieth century. We’re drowning in the stuff, and we need to start making some hard choices.

Baseball Binge Film Series: The Natural

Movies on the topic of Baseball, Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. in the Greg Turner Room

This week's selection: "The Natural"

Nothing was going to stop Roy Hobbs from fulfilling his boyhood dream of baseball stardom. As a 14-year old he fashions a baseball bat from an oak tree. He soon impresses major league scouts with his ability. His talent also catches the eye of a sportswriter who eventually becomes instrumental in Hobbs' career. The appearance of a mysterious woman, however, shatters his dream. Years later Hobbs reappears as a rookie for the New York Knights and has an opportunity to share in their race for the pennant. Based on the novel by Bernard Malamud
