Limber Up Chair Yoga (via Zoom)

Limber Up Chair Yoga” is taught by Diane Negvesky who teaches for the Rye YMCA and leads classes and fitness instruction at The Osborn in Rye for Independent Living. The 30 minute class includes seated and standing exercises with the support of a chair.

Chair yoga is a general term for practices that modify yoga poses so they can be done with a chair. It is a great way for older adults to get the wonderful health benefits of yoga. Yoga is an excellent way for older adults to loosen and stretch painful muscles, reduce stress, and improve circulation. It also reduces anxiety, helps lower blood pressure, protects joints, and builds strength and balance. At this time that we all must have to work from home, these exercises help a lot to stay focused, relax a little bit and maintain calm and posture. It’s open to the whole family, not just for adults.

Join us in these series of exercises that will help to keep us calm and families working together!

Singers from the 50's with Richard Knox

Richard Knox returns for another engaging series featuring outstanding singers from the 1950's.  Presentations include 2 part programs on 6 different entertainers.  This week and October 28th will highlight Nat King Cole and Florence Henderson Part 2.

A list of the great recording artists of the mid-20th century would be incomplete without the legendary baritone voice of Nat King Cole. With a meteoric career that spanned film, radio, and television, his rendition of songs such as “When I Fall in Love”, “Mona Lisa”, “Ramblin’ Rose”, and “Smile” are truly “Unforgettable”.

Prior to playing Carol Brady on the hit television series “The Brady Bunch”, Florence Henderson had already cemented a place for herself as an outstanding musical artist.  She followed up her Broadway debut in “Wish You Were Here” in 1952 with an extensive run as the title character in “Fanny”, and later appeared in revivals of both “Oklahoma” and “South Pacific”. This program will allow audiences to see and hear her perform some of the great melodies from the aforementioned shows as well as other great standards such as “Make Someone Happy”, “It’s Almost Like Being in Love”, and “Manhattan”.
