To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Eldredge Public Library, an illustrated talk about the library building and architect will be presented by Chatham resident and architectural enthusiast, Betsy Bray. She will take you on a photographic tour of the Library’s architectural features and share the story of its history. Albion Merton Marble, a little-known architect from Fall River, designed the Eldredge Public Library and four other buildings in southeastern Massachusetts. His style was heavily influenced by famous architect Henry Hobson (HH) Richardson, initiator of the Romanesque revival in the United States.
Betsy works as a tour guide and project assistant for the Cape Cod Modern House Trust, a nonprofit that preserves mid-century modern houses located in the Cape Cod National Seashore. She received the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy Award for her volunteer efforts.

Poetry Workshop:The Contemporary Villanelle - Want to learn another poetic form? The villanelle is a poem derived from Italian song, crossing countries and continents, which can now serve as the perfect conduit for whatever you’ve been obsessing over. Come learn the about the history of this unique form, its initial purposes, and what it has evolved into for contemporary poets. We’ll look at some well-known villanelles from Dylan Thomas, Elizabeth Bishop, and Sylvia Plath, and then glean into what the future could hold for this Italian field workers’ verse. You will then work on generating your own.
A Pushcart, Best of the Net, and Best New Poets nominee, John Bonanni serves as founding editor for the Cape Cod Poetry Review. He is the recipient of a scholarship from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, grants from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and a residency from AS220 in Providence, RI. His poems have appeared in Gulf Coast, CutBank, North American Review, Verse Daily, Seattle Review, Hobart, Washington Square Review, Foglifter, and Prairie Schooner, and his literary criticism has appeared in DIAGRAM, Rain Taxi, Tupelo Quarterly, and Kenyon Review. Preparing for Sea Level Rise: Climate Vulnerability for Coastal Environments and Communities - Mass Audubon and Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW) will present on the impacts of sea level rise on communities within Cape Cod, how to prepare as individuals, and how to build resilience as communities. We will dive into projected levels of sea level rise, connections with climate change, correlations with flooding, and inequitable impacts on communities. The presentation will also include sea level rise impacts on salt marshes and restoration actions to protect these coastal habitats. After this presentation, you’ll have the tools to determine how to prepare for a flood to protect yourself, neighbors and the broader community and will learn of the threats that the natural environment is facing in light of rising sea levels. Lyme Disease is the most prevalent tick-borne disease in Massachusetts and is now considered to be a public health crisis. In addition to Lyme, deer ticks can carry the pathogens which cause Babesiosis, Anaplasmosis, Relapsing Fever and Powassan virus, all of which can be very serious. This program will review the basic life cycle and ecology of deer, dog and lone star ticks. This will include an exercise in tick identification using temporary tattoos and go over all elements of personal protection. Join us for this virtual program that includes a Q&A session with Larry Dapsis.
