Glitter and Sensory Bottles!

Join Miss Katie for crafting mixed with STEM this week to make your own glitter and / or sensory bottles! Miss Katie will also share a book about mindfulness and breathing and explain how the bottles can also be used to help us practice mindfulness, which we can use to help us feel calmer sometimes when we are feeling overwhelmed.

Grades K - 6.

Caregiver assistance may be necessary for younger children.

Register to receive the link to the Zoom meeting in an email.  Use your oldest child's name to register. You only need to complete one registration form per family.

Please gather the following materials and bring them with you:

  • A clear plastic bottle with a lid, any size you would like.

  • Clear glue, clear hair gel, or baby oil. (enough to fill about 30 percent of the total capacity of your chosen bottle).

  • Warm water (to fill the remaining 70 percent of your bottle).

  • A whisk or spoon.

  • A bowl or measuring cup with a spout, or a bowl without a spout and a funnel. The bowl should be big enough to mix the contents of your bottle.

  • Glitter if desired, as much and as many colors or kinds as you would like! You can make one without glitter, using only small objects, if you would like to as well.

  • Small objects if desired! They should be small enough to put into your bottle, lightweight, and unable to rust. Small plastic objects like legos, beads, googly eyes, or buttons work great for this! Glass beads or heavier plastic items may sink too quickly when you shake the bottle, taking away from the meditative effect. If you are unsure whether an object will be too heavy, you can test it when we are making the bottles and take it out if you find it sinks too quickly when you shake your bottle later!

  • Watercolors or food coloring if you want to change the color of the water in your bottle!

  • Duct tape to seal the bottle after making. If you want it to be extra secure or if you find it leaks when you shake it, you can additionally use a strong glue on the inside of the cap, such as super glue or a craft adhesive like E600.
