CANCELED Successful Selling through Online Yard Sales

We are pleased to welcome Deb Colameta on Saturday morning, April 4th, at 11 a.m.  Deb is an expert seller, and has made thousands of dollars (and created extra space in her home) by using the power of online yard sales.

Are you moving? Minimizing? Tidying and decluttering has become a timely topic, and this workshop will teach you Deb’s best tips for how to make money while purging your home!

Also, by upcycling, freecycling, and selling your extra things, you can avoid contributing to landfills. Deb Colameta is the author of "Best Offer, Best Life!: Deb’s Quick-Start", which will be available for purchase after the presentation.

Besides using virtual yard sales to create space and earn cash, Colameta is an adjunct professor at Northeastern University and runs a consulting practice.

CANCELED Joy of Learning: Mayflower 400: the Wampanoag & English Perspectives

The second in a series of four talks in conjunction with the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower and the  “Falmouth Reads Together” book of the year, Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick.   Each talk will focus on a different perspective related to the arrival of the Mayflower in 1620 and the complex history that followed.  This series is developed by the Falmouth Genealogical Society.

Wednesdays, April 1, 8, 15 & 22, 7:00 – 8:00 PM

April 8:  Influences on Native Perspectives – Myths, Legends & Realities by Ron Petersen.   Ron Petersen is chair of the Orleans Historical Commission and is working with CapeCod2020 on a symposium that will recognize the Cape Cod role in the Plymouth 400 Commemoration.  He also writes a monthly column in the Cape Codder on local historical topics

This presentation will focus on an often-marginalized aspect of the Mayflower story- the perspective of the Native Americans who had occupied the land for centuries before its arrival.  We will consider pre-Mayflower encounters between the Natives and Europeans and relations between the Wampanoags and the Pilgrims in the early years of the colony, with a focus on Cape Cod.

April 15:  Connections to Early Falmouth Families by Phyllis Day.  Ms. Day is a board member of the Falmouth Genealogical Society and delegate to the New England Regional Genealogical Consortium.

April 22:  Proving a Mayflower Connection by Ralph Wadleigh.  Mr. Wadleigh is the current secretary and former president of the Falmouth Genealogical Society, as well as descendant of Mayflower passenger, John Alden.

Registration for the series is requested, but not required.

CANCELED Joy of Learning - Sensing in Aquatic Animals

This class will be offered by Jelle Atema, PhD, professor emeritus at Boston University, and guest scientist Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Dominance, memory, courtship, navigation, homing, feeding behavior…what information do marine and freshwater animals need and how do they extract it? This series of four lectures addresses the sensory biology of aquatic animals based largely on four “model species”: lobsters, sharks, catfish, and larval reef fishes, one species per lecture. For example, can lobsters really remember the smell of another individual? Can sharks really sense a drop of blood a mile away? Why can catfish smell and taste under water? How can half-inch long fish larvae avoid being carried away in the big ocean? The lectures are based primarily on research in the “Atema Lab” in Woods Hole, as well as other labs and field studies in Australia and Cape Cod. Registration for the series is requested, but not required (just need to register once for first class).
