Windows of Abraham Reception & Panel Discussion

The library will display a stained glass series by Wil Darcangelo, M.Div. On Wednesday, May 29, please join us for a reception & panel discussion to address the concerns we have about the religious and cultural “other,” as well as the ideas we all have in common.

Poetry Workshop for the Revolving Museum

Join us on June 4, 2019 from 6-8 PM to create poetry for the Revolving Museum’s inspiring new project entitled “The Public Art Poetry Mobile & Gallery.”

The Revolving Museum’s public art project creatively transforms a 1952 Ford pick-up truck and 16’ long flat-bed trailer bed into a gallery for art, poetry, performances, and workshop opportunities designed for the public.  The project will showcase the talents of hundreds of students from Fitchburg High School, Sizer High School, Longsjo Middle School, as well as dozens of under-served local artists, poets, and community members.  It will travel from June to November 2019 throughout Massachusetts and other New England communities making planned and spontaneous stops at schools, festivals, parks, museums, art galleries, downtown Main Streets, and under-utilized public spaces.  The project will also invite the public to create their own poems and artworks that will be displayed on TRM’s web site and social media outlets.  The art/poetry mobile will also sell merchandise made by students and artists including t-shirts, caps, poetry books, paintings, and other collectibles.  These proceeds will assist to fund this on-going project and Revolving Museum youth programs throughout the year.

Thru Hiking the Appalachian Trail

“Not all those who wander are lost”  -J.R.R.Tolkien

Those who attend this program will be treated to a modern day adventure. Sam Ducharme set out on a 2180 mile, 14 state backpacking trip from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mt. Katahdin Maine. During his six month journey he documented the rugged beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, the wildlife, the hardships encountered on the trail, as well as the people, culture and humanity at its finest. Come join him as he takes you through the trail towns, over the mountaintops and through the backcountry. The images and stories will leave you with a renewed awe of the beauty of our country and its people.

See his gear, how he cooked, and hear what it is like sleeping in a hammock for six months through three seasons.

You will also hear how Sam returned to the trail the following year, connecting with aspiring Thru Hikers, paying it forward, and his return to the summit of Katahdin one year later.

Sam Ducharme is a retired K9 Officer and is a lifelong resident of Connecticut. He has two adult sons, both serving in the United States Air Force. As an avid outdoorsman, and finding the empty-nest, Sam decided to buy a backpack and a plane ticket to Georgia. From there, he started walking north. With no prior backpacking experience, he learned on the trail. Gear, trail nutrition, enduring the elements, and the logistics involved in a long distance backpacking trip were hard lessons. After 20 years working within Connecticut’s prisons, the search for a positive recharge resulted in a life changing journey.

Signed copies of Sam’s book “Sole Searching on the Appalachian Trail” will be available for purchase after the program.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Fitchburg Public Library.

Book Signing - Thirty Pieces by Gilda Horgan

Please join us for a talk with local author Gilda Horgan, followed by a book signing.

Thirty Pieces is Gilda Horgan's 3rd novel, but the only one in print. Currently writing a 4th novel, she also has a children's book on Amazon that she wrote and illustrated about her son with Autism, called, "Tyler's Magic Word Box". Gilda has two fine arts degrees and her day job is Creative Director for Olympus Surgical in Southborough, managing creative teams, writing, designing and illustrating. Ms. Horgan lives in Fitchburg with her two children. When she's not writing, working, or with her kids, she plays the harp, does yoga, kayaks, and reads!"

From the book jacket:

"When Celia buys a silver coin in the Cayman Islands, miraculous events begin to surround her, starting with an act of healing causing an episode of stigmata. Unwillingly thrust into a spiritual quest to locate all thirty pieces, Celia embarks on a harrowing adventure with her college love who left her years earlier for the priesthood. Navigating by religious texts, prophecies, Einstein’s theories, and modern technology, their crusade draws them through ancient ruins in Mexico and sacred places in Turkey with the belief that reuniting the coins will result in heaven on earth and a new era for the world. Hindered by natural disasters and religious zealots also seeking coins, Celia runs a race against time, truth, and doubt. Can she reunite the thirty pieces without the stigmata killing her, or succumbing to the coin’s intense powers, in order to bring enlightenment and the heavenly transformation on Earth that was prophesied?"
