Breaker Space / Canceled

Fall River Public Library presents Breaker Space--a/k/a take-apart time, toy take-a-part, break & make, appliance autopsy, or deconstruction station! Join us for this free family program on the last Saturday of each month.

The library will provide patrons with toys, electronics, or appliances and let them carefully take things apart to see what makes them tick. We will provide the tools and protective gear. This program is growing in popularity as it is a great opportunity for kids to explore how common household items work and expose them to circuitry concepts. Kids as well as adults become familiar with an object’s components, so they can identify how items can be repaired and learn how to create new ones by harvesting parts.

Note: safety goggles must be worn. Parents are responsible for supervising children.

Thank you to Home Depot, Schwartz Hardware, and Rocky's Ace Hardware for donations of tools and safety goggles!

Fall River Public Library and Somerset Public Library are excited to present a live chat with Jotham Burrello, author of Spindle City, a new novel about life in historic Fall River!

Spindle City

Spindle City tells the story of a family in Fall River at the height of the cotton boom. Set in 1911, the year of Fall River's Cotton Centennial celebration, this meticulously researched novel vividly portrays life in early 20th-century Fall River.

''In the grand tradition of E. L. Doctorow and Paula McLain, Jotham Burrello's assured debut novel blends historical reality with invention as he creates textile mill owner Joseph Bartlett, who stands astride a world on the narrow edge of dangerous change. Even as Bartlett revels in his prosperity, he mourns his dying wife, and as union agitators are pitted against bosses, his sons are overtaken by the horrors of World War I. What could be a catalog of momentous events springs to life as Burrello infuses his characters with passion and humanity.'' --Jacquelyn Mitchard, author of The Deep End of the Ocean

Join author Jotham Burello as he reads excerpts from Spindle City, talks about the origins of the story, and answers questions from readers. This Zoom event is free and open to all. Registration is required. Details on how to register will be provided soon.

Copies of Spindle City are available from your local library, through Overdrive, or in your favorite bookstore.
