Breaker Space / Meeting Room

Fall River Public Library presents Breaker Space--a/k/a take-apart time, toy take-a-part, break & make, appliance autopsy, or deconstruction station! During the summer, we will hold Breaker Space on the last Thursday of each month at 2 p.m.

The library will provide patrons with toys, electronics, or appliances and let them carefully take things apart to see what makes them tick. We will provide the tools and protective gear. This program is growing in popularity as it is a great opportunity for kids to explore how common household items work and expose them to circuitry concepts. Kids as well as adults become familiar with an object’s components, so they can identify how items can be repaired and learn how to create new ones by harvesting parts.

Note: safety goggles must be worn. Parents are responsible for supervising children.

Thank you to Home Depot, Schwartz Hardware, and Rocky's Ace Hardware for donations of tools and safety goggles!

Trial of Lizzie Borden - Book Talk / Meeting Room

Lizzie Borden

Author Cara Robertson will talk about her new book, The Trial of Lizzie Borden, a meticulously researched true story of Fall River's most notorious murder case.

Robertson, a Harvard-educated lawyer and former Supreme Court law clerk, brings her legal background and twenty years of research to this in-depth story of "the trial of the (19th) century," drawing upon court transcripts, newspaper stories, and previously unpublished first-hand accounts, including newly discovered letters from Lizzie Borden herself.

"With deft storytelling and convincing scholarship, Cara Robertson does the seemingly impossible by bringing new life to perhaps our oldest true-crime saga: the Gilded Age case of Lizzie Borden. By giving us Fall River, Massachusetts, in full and in context, as well as the panoply of characters who made the trial so sensational, Robertson has written that rarest of things: a page-turner with a point."—Jon Meacham, author of The Soul of America

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

This free program is sponsored by Friends of the Fall River Public Library.
