Breaker Space

Fall River Public Library introduces Breaker Space--a/k/a take-apart time, toy take-a-part, break & make, appliance autopsy, or deconstruction station!

The library will provide patrons with toys, electronics, or appliances and let them carefully take things apart to see what makes them tick. We will provide the tools and protective gear. This program is growing in popularity as it is a great opportunity for kids to explore how common household items work and expose them to circuitry concepts. Kids as well as adults become familiar with an object’s components, so they can identify how items can be repaired and learn how to create new ones by harvesting parts.

Note: safety goggles must be worn. Parents are responsible for supervising children.

Thank you to Home Depot, Schwartz Hardware, and Rocky's Ace Hardware for donations of tools and safety goggles!

Thomas Brandy Book Talk/Meeting Room
Thomas C. Brandy, a native of Fall River and former resident of Tiverton and Barrington, RI, has announced the publishing of his first historical fiction novel, Robert's Wing. The story takes place in Fall River/Tiverton/Dartmouth/Sakonnet and surrounding waters during the start of America's involvement in World War II. It blends some of the history of the beginnings of the Civil Air Patrol with a fictional aero club that assists the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy in providing sea rescues, submarine location and other early war, unmet military needs. In so doing, Robert's Wing also informs readers of how civilians coped with life at home by highlighting our Yankee grit that was so essential in the victorious outcome of the Battle for the Atlantic and foiling the sinister invasion plans of the Axis powers.  Robert's Wing

A product of Rhode Island public schooling, Mr Brandy is a graduate of Heidelberg University in Ohio and holds a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) with additional studies at the University of Oslo (Norway) and Minnesota State (St. Cloud). Now retired after forty years as a special educator, he has resumed his interest in writing historical fiction. As a licensed pilot he is also an active senior member of the Civil Air Patrol. He and his family now reside in the Rochester, Minnesota area. Mr. Brandy is currently communicating with area libraries and hopes to provide presentations and signings this coming spring and summer.
