Mysterious Monsters of the Great Lakes

Is it "real"? Is it "just a legend"? What's the difference?

Michigan's Great Lakes are deep, dark and full of mysteries. Explore the history of reported serpents and monsters that haunt these waters in this presentation. Shetan Noir has spent 25 years researching the Paranormal and Cryptozoology fields. Her fascination began at an early age when she first learned about the Loch Ness monster, then hearing reports of lake monsters in her own state of Michigan. Shetan gives a new insight into the possibilities of what may be lurking in our Great Lakes.

Where's the "Great” Pumpkin? Hiding somewhere inside the Grand Ledge Area District Library! Look high, look low-- there's no telling where the Great Pumpkin might go! If you spot him, let us know. We have a Treat for those who know! Children are invited to search the library to see if they can spot the Great Pumpkin! If they find him, DON'T TOUCH HIM--  come and tell us where he is and get a treat! The Great Pumpkin will move around every few days, so kids have a chance to hunt for him all October long. Come check out your favorite Halloween books and movies and hunt for the Great Pumpkin too!

It's been a challenging year-- but we still have many things to be thankful for! When children visit the library this month, they can choose a 'Thankful Leaf" to help decorate our bulletin board. Choose your favorite leaf, write your thankful thought on it, and hang it from our "Tree of Thanksgiving". Or, children could choose to take their leaf home and make their own Tree at home, too! We're thankful you come to visit us! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Ships Lost! The Deadly Great Lakes White Hurricane of 1913

In November of 1913, a deadly three-day blizzard ravaged the Great Lakes. Hurricane-force winds, ice and monstrous waves claimed 12 ships and over 250 lives. When the storm abated, among the tragic wreckage were many mysteries-- including the fate of ships that had simply vanished in the fury of the storm, like the SS Hydrusa 436' steamer lost with all hands somewhere on Lake Huron.

Diver and shipwreck hunter David Trotter has devoted many years to uncovering the secrets of the Great Lakes and solving mysteries hidden in the depths.  Join us for his presentation of "Ghost of the White Hurricane"-- the story of his recent discovery & the exploration of the SS Hydrus,  missing for over 100 years--the last “Ghost” of the White Hurricane.

Crafting For A Cause
Crafting for a Cause is a casual, friendly group that serves the community with hand-made projects.  Many members work with yarn but other craft forms are always welcome.  The group offers suggestions for projects to be made with your materials.  It's a great way to use your yarn stash on small items like hats and dishcloths.  The donations benefit area programs including,  but not limited to, Grand Ledge Food and Clothing Bank and Timber Creek Ranch, a life-skills residential home for young men.  The group is always looking for new members to produce donations and new groups to serve.  All skill levels are welcome.  For information, contact Cheryl at ourdailybread360@gmail.com   Please note Crafting for a Cause as subject

Grand Ledge Food Bank always needs donations of the following:

  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towel
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Small bottles of dish soap
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Deodorant
