Refugees, Farming, and Rabies

"Refugees, Farming, and Rabies...an Odd Premise for a Suspense Novel"

Meet Grand Ledge author R. J. Erskine for a book talk, sale and signing of his book: "Casting Demons into Swine".  Erskine has served as a large animal veterinarian for 35 years. Working among farmers and the rural community, he has an agriculturist perspective in a society that is increasingly distant from food production. Erskine is especially interested in the natural and cultural forces that not only impact farming, but the rural communities. The author currently  continues his professional career as a veterinary physician at MSU.

The career of Malcolm Cromarty, D.V.M., was finally settling into a routine, despite his recent divorce and being new to the valley.  However, the daily grind veers off course with the arrival of a disease outbreak that seemingly doesn’t stay on message with the textbooks.

With each passing day, Malcolm stumbles deeper into a community that holds science, change, and outsiders under a high degree of suspicion, and a family feud with a dark and malevolent past. Hardly a promising path to control the outbreak.

How to Adult

Teens and young adults are the masters of new technologies-- but can they: open a bank account, change a tire, read a map, apply for a job, iron a shirt, make a pot of coffee? We'll explore these and other life skills during our How to Adult presentations.

This time, it's: Money Matters: Checking accounts, on-line banking, credit, debit, bill paying, saving and more! Presented by Eaton Federal Savings Bank, and Driving & Law Enforcement: From licenses to tickets-- what to do and how to safely cope with those encounters. Presented by the Grand Ledge Police Department.
