1000 Books Before Kindergarten

a deer reading a book

For all kids from birth up through entering kindergarten.

The single most important thing you can do to prepare your children to read is to read to them every day. Research proves that children need to hear 1000 books before they begin to learn to read independently.

Reading to children will: increase their vocabulary, increase their listening and narrative skills, help to instill in them self-awareness and confidence, impart an understanding of their place in the world.

Registration is required here at goffstownlibrary.com/calendar. After your child has read their first 100 books, one of the rewards and incentives for this program is a 1000 Books Before Kindergarten tote bag! Please email at any time if you have questions about this program during the stay-at-home order from Governor Sununu.

Download & Print: Title Log (for parents), and Color-In Log (for kids).

For more information, including an Early Literacy Practices for Parents download, please visit www.goffstownlibrary.com/1000books.

Plant-based Diet Lunch and Learn

Hannaford logoWith Marilyn Mills, MS,RD,LD,CDE, Hannaford Dietitian

This event will be held remotely via Webex. Registration is required at www.goffstownlibrary.com/calendar, all registered participants will receive an email invitation to participate.

Plant-based foods are gaining popularity. Healthy menu swaps for red meat and cheeses can help reduce heart disease and save money at the grocery store. Plant-based diet patterns don’t follow a strict definition, but they share a common focus; eating more foods from plants and fewer animal products. Sometimes when we make diet changes we worry about missing out on key nutrients and sacrificing flavor. But have no fear! Tune in to look at the top five plant-based foods to get you started. Plus, Marilyn will give a No-Cook Recipe demo using 1 of 5 key essentials plant-based foods: Quick Cucumber Chickpea Salad featured in the Manchester HIPPO.
