Peter Fletcher: Classical Guitarist

Accomplished classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will be returning to the Gloversville Library in July as part of his upcoming tour. He made his New York Debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in February 2007, and returned in 2008, 2009 and 2010 to a completely sold-out house.

On this tour, Peter will be performing some beautiful pieces, including:
The ever popular Spanish classic "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" by Francisco Tarrega;
The exciting "Rumores de la Caleta" by Isaac Albeniz;
William Walton's fiendishly difficult "Five Bagatelles";
Four preludes by Manuel Ponce;
"Lute Suite No. 1 in E minor";
and Vivaldi's "Concerto in D Major".

"Fletcher’s performances bear not a trace of strain or awkwardness. His playing reminds me of Segovia’s—not Segovia at the end of his career, when he sometimes sounded a little too careful, but Segovia at the time of his several Decca LPs from the 1950s and 1960s. This is mellow playing, and melody is king, but rhythmic vitality is never sacrificed, phrasing is precise, and harmonies always retain a jewel-like clarity.” --Fanfare Magazine, July/August 2014

Bigfoot Presentation

Presentation by Tri-City NY Paranormal Society.

A team of Sasquatch field researchers from Tri-City NYPS will present their research and findings on one of the most well known illusive creatures of global infamy.

This team pursues sightings, leads, encounters and areas of interest here in New York State along with other neighboring states. Their mission is to collect data to show that it is possible that this creature does roam the forest of the northeast, and to share that data with you so you can come up with your own personal conclusion.

Tri-City NYPS is dedicated to conducting research and examination of paranormal events and occurrences. Founded in October 2009, they are an eclectic group of individuals with training in various relevant fields such as psychology, astrophysics, anthropology, architecture and mechanics. They are headquartered at the 1798 Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany, New York and investigate locales within and nearby the greater Capital District.

Who Wore it Better? The Trials of Progress and the Wise 'Future Face of America'

The “Future Face of America” that Thomas Jefferson spoke of in 1817 when writing to New York State Governor and Erie Canal champion DeWitt Clinton was one of the internal improvements that would transform the early American Republic.

He congratulated Clinton on the progress of a canal “…in a state wise enough to see that the common interest is individual interest, and rich enough to pursue it."

George Washington had also received encouragement from Jefferson for his Potomac Company canal project, but both Clinton and Washington were confronted by major obstacles in their efforts to connect the eastern waters to the new westward expanding nation. Both were successful in the long run in changing the political, economic, and physical landscape of the nation; just in different ways.

Join David Brooks, the Education Director at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, as he looks at the similarities and differences between DeWitt Clinton and George Washington as they navigate the waters of internal improvements in early America.
