Join us for a delicious dinner followed by a lively discussion of White Ivy by Susie Yang. Raised near Boston by immigrant Chinese parents, Ivy wants nothing more than to fit in with her American peers. Her strict parents are completely focused on survival in a new country and don’t even try to understand Ivy. Heavily influenced by her shoplifting grandmother, Ivy yearns for wealth and status as she approaches adulthood. To what lengths will she go to get what she wants?
Registration is required.
Copies of the book will be available at the library in mid-April.
The Glocester Libraries are recommending that all patrons wear a mask inside the library.

Our June meeting will feature the book Everyday Dorie: the Way I Cook by Dorie Greenspan. The author, who gave up working on a doctorate in gerontology to bake cookies in a basement restaurant kitchen, went on to win five James Beard Awards and write fourteen cookbooks.
This is how the club works: every month, pick up a copy of that month’s cookbook selection at the library. Choose a recipe to make and prepare it for the next month’s meeting. We will sample each other’s dishes and discuss our cooking experiences. If you would like to join the Cookbook Club, register here and then drop by the library to pick up a copy of the book.

Join us at Harmony Library for a book talk by local author Harry Anderson. Harry’s latest title is Block Time: a Memoir. He describes this book as “replicating a story quilt by its structure, Block Time narrates 25 episodes that are germane in the making of who I am. My wish is for readers to see me as Everyman and thus find links with themselves. Also, my hope is to encourage others to write their own memoirs."
Harry, a longtime resident of Harmony, Rhode Island, is a retired English teacher. He is also the author of Pleasant Things in Ashes Lie, an account of a house fire at his and his wife Pauline’s home in 2006. Harry has also written numerous magazine articles, some of which were awarded first place honors by the Rhode Island Press Association.

Walk #6 Location: Sprague Farm (we will meet at the parking lot on Pine Orchard Road.)
For our second walk of the season at this Glocester Land Trust property, we’ll pass by the stone foundations of two farmsteads on the Sprague Trail, continue along a scenic ridge, and then turn onto the Colonel Anthony Trail.
For the most part, we will be walking single-file on narrow trails making it easier to follow social distancing guidelines.
Please register for each individual walk that you plan to attend.
Don't forget your water bottle and insect repellant. Trails of this type typically feature sections with rocks, stumps, and tree roots to maneuver.

RABBITS, GROUNDHOGS and DEER: The bane of many gardeners' existence are these three critters. Half-eaten tomatoes and munched on magnolias are enough to drive anyone to their wits' end. While these critters may seem impossible to manage, there are measures you can take to defend your garden. As frustrating as these fuzzy felons may be, they are important to Rhode Island’s ecosystem, acting as valuable natural resources in our state. This session will give you tools to protect your garden and will cover the rules and regulations for hunting and trapping on private property. It will also highlight the New England Cottontail Project and Deer Program.
Mary Gannon and Gabrielle De Meillon from RIDEM’s Division of Fish and Wildlife will be offering this free, hybrid program. It can be attended in person at Harmony Library OR virtually through ZOOM.

Join us for a delicious dinner followed by a lively discussion of the New York Times bestselling Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder. Across the country, employers have discovered a new, low-cost labor pool, made up largely of transient older Americans. Finding that social security comes up short, often underwater on mortgages, these invisible casualties of the Great Recession have taken to the road by the tens of thousands in late-model RVs, travel trailers, and vans, forming a growing community of nomads.
Registration is required. Copies of the book will be available in the library by mid-June.
