Join Early Childhood Specialist Nancy Railsback for a morning of music and creative movement. A singer songwriter, she brings her knowledge of young children to early childhood programs providing experiences for singing, expressive movement, as well as opportunities to listen to and play instruments.

This program is for children up to age 3 with a parent.

Nashua River Watershed Presentation
The Nashua River Watershed will have a free presentation in the library meeting room titled: "Protecting Shirley's Waterways: Water Quality Issues and How You Can Help."

Shirley is fortunate to have beautiful rivers and streams flowing through it, such as the Nashua and Squannacook rivers, and Catacunemaug brook. What is being done to protect these rivers and the tributary streams? Learn about the history of the cleanup of the Nashua River since the 1960's, and the water quality issues facing Shirley's waterways today.

The Nashua River Watershed (NWRA) will discuss:

  • the Nashua River Wild & Scenic River Study
  • NRWA's monitoring program
  • native plants and animals that depend on clean waterways for habitat
  • invasive aquatic plants such as water chestnut and milfoil
  • how you can get involved as a volunteer

The Hazen Memorial Library hosts a book club for adults who are interested in reading and discussing Science Fiction and Fantasy literature. This month's title is L.E. Modesitt's novel The Eternity Artifact.

Summary: In a period five thousand years into the future in which the human race maintains an uneasy peace throughout thousands of planets, scientists discover a first sign of intelligent alien life when they locate a mobile planet, a finding that a shuttle pilot, an artist, and a history professor are dispatched to investigate.
