Sci-Fi & Fantasy Book Club

The Hazen Memorial Library hosts a book club for adults who are interested in reading and discussing Science Fiction and Fantasy literature. This month's title is Charles Yu's novel How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe.

Summary: From a 5 Under 35 winner, comes a razor-sharp, hilarious, and touching story of a son searching for his father . . . through quantum space-time.

Every day in Minor Universe 31 people get into time machines and try to change the past. That's where Charles Yu, time travel technician, steps in. He helps save people from themselves. Literally. When he's not taking client calls, Yu visits his mother and searches for his father, who invented time travel and then vanished. The key to locating his father may be found in a book. It's called How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, and somewhere inside it is information that will help him. It may even save his life.

Please call or visit the library to order your copy of the book. Pizza will be provided!

Gardener's Exchange Meeting

The Gardener's Exchange will meet in the Library Meeting Room from 10:30 - 12:30.

Cold Frames & Hoop Houses

Gretel Anspach, Massachusetts Horticultural Society

Getting that itch to get your hands dirty? Cold frames and hoop houses are great season extenders, allowing vegetables and other annuals to be planted outdoors 2-4 weeks earlier than unprotected plants. They also play a key role in the transition of seedlings of all kinds from the sheltered windowsill or greenhouse environment to the outdoors. Learn how, where, and when to use these interesting tools in your own garden and get a head start on the growing season!

Gretel Anspach is an Overseer of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and Lifetime Master Gardener with the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association. She has also volunteered for the New England Wildflower Society as an adult’s and children’s guide. She considers her horticultural interests to be eclectic. Gretel helped to establish and maintain two food production gardens that have provided fresh produce to the Marlboro Food Pantry for the last eight years.

For more information about Gretel, please follow the link below:

Friends of the Hazen Memorial Library Meeting

Join the Friends of the Hazen Memorial Library tonight! The Friends is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to foster closer relations between the Library and the community; to promote awareness of the Library’s services and programs; and to raise funds for Library programs and Museum Passes.
