EzClass Teaching

EzClass Teaching is a group of three high school students who aspire to educate young children (grades 5 - 7) in an engaging, effective way. We chose to teach topics that we personally are passionate about because passion can really come across when someone is teaching. We hope that being taught about subjects such as Computer Programming, Financial Literacy, and American Government will broaden the education of your child by teaching them about subjects which they typically aren’t required to learn in school. These three subjects allow children to explore their interests, and eventually help them get a job and be successful in adulthood. To sign up for classes, please visit https://ezclassteaching.wixsite.com/ezclass

Virtual Author Chat with Shana Abé [Zoom]

VIRTUAL AUTHOR CHAT WITH SHANA ABE & VALLEY STREAM BOOK CLUB MEETING

The library will be hosting a virtual author visit with Shana at the Valley Stream Book Club Meeting on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 7:30 pm, to discuss her novel, The Second Mrs. Astor:

She was a teen socialite at the end of the Gilded Age.  He was American royalty, nearly 30 years her senior.
Their scandalous tabloid courtship ended in tragedy aboard the Titanic.

But that is just the beginning of her story…

In 1910, Jack Astor was American royalty, the richest man in the world, and Fifth Avenue scion of the Gilded Age. Madeleine Force was a beautiful teenaged debutante suddenly and unexpectedly thrust into fame simply for falling in love with a famous man nearly three decades her senior.  From their scandalous courtship to their catastrophic honeymoon aboard the Titanic—a tragedy that transformed a pregnant Madeleine into an American Princess Diana of her time—their love story is brought to life in THE SECOND MRS. ASTOR, a captivating work of historical fiction by New York Times and USA Today bestselling novelist Shana Abé.

If you would like to attend this virtual author visit, send an e-mail to hwmlcontact@hotmail.com so that we can send the Zoom information to you to attend.

This program is hosted by the Valley Stream Library and co-hosted by Oceanside Library and Hicksville Library.

Chinese for Families

Are you looking for fun, enrichment activities for your child to do in their spare time?  Look no more!  Join us on a fascinating journey to learn Mandarin and Chinese culture with NeuLingo!

NeuLingo classes are delivered live in a safe online environment by native speaking teachers who make Chinese interactive and engaging for children.  Through theme-based activities, children will learn about Chinese language and culture as the teachers guide them through the world's most illustrious cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an, both in ancient times and modern.  They will also virtually experience how people celebrate traditional festivals in China such as Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival and so on.  Watch your child’s face light up as they uncover the stories behind these festivals and cities.  And most importantly, they will have the chance to engage in Chinese learning and socialize with other children in your community.  Your child can learn all about China now, and later when they can go in person, they'll be able to lead their own tours - and show off their Mandarin!

Thursdays, October 7 - December 23 (no class on November 11 and 25).

This program will be virtual through Zoom.  Please see the confirmation email for the Zoom link.

Grades K - 5.

*By registering for one session, you will be registered for all sessions.*

With a career of over seventy years in show business, few vocalists have engendered more devoted fans around the world than the amazing Tony Bennett.  From his first #1 hit, “Because of You,” in 1951, and through his final concert at Radio City Music Hall in 2021, as he battled against Alzheimer’s disease, Tony’s voice, stage presence, and magnetic personality has endeared him to millions.

During this presentation with Richard Knox we will have an opportunity to revel in Tony’s rendition of classic numbers such as “Rags to Riches,” “ Stranger in Paradise,” “Cheek to Cheek” (with Lady Gaga), and, of course, his signature song “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

Please register your child for programs according to age and grade.  If the wrong age/grade is given, we will need to delete the registration.  Thank you!

Virtual Event: Rockin' Hollywood with Brian Rose

Rockin’ TV: Rock & Roll and Television from Elvis to the Monkees with Brian Rose

Beginning in the mid-1950s, rock music found a surprising home on mainstream television. Programs hosted by Milton Berle, Steve Allen, and especially Ed Sullivan featured a wide variety of musicians including Bill Haley & the Comets, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, and especially Elvis Presley, who appeared on all three shows to galvanic response. Afternoon dance programs like American Bandstand played a role as well in bringing rock to large and eager teenage audiences. Then, in 1964, the appearance of the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show would change the face of pop culture, leading to an explosion of televised rock, from the Supremes to the Rolling Stones, for the rest of the decade. This program will present a lively survey of the fascinating history of how rock and television grew up together.

Please register your child for programs according to age and grade.  If the wrong age/grade is given, we will need to delete the registration.  Thank you!
