Speaking out for banned and challenged books is vital in the fight against censorship. Dear Banned Author is a letter-writing campaign that encourages readers to write, tweet, or email banned or challenged authors during Banned Books Week (September 26 - October 2, 2021), sharing what their stories mean to them.

Northwell Health Associate Director and Board certified in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Jill Whyte has over 13 years of clinical experience caring for women with gynecologic malignancies. She has extensive experience in robotic and laparoscopic surgery and has served as a co-chair of the Northwell Health System Robotics Committee. She also has a strong interest and expertise in fertility-preserving management of gynecologic cancers and risk reducing surgery for women at genetic risk for gynecologic cancer. An onsite medical services and diagnostic testing van will be parked in the Library's parking lot. In addition to Covid-19 Moderna Vaccinations (must be 18 and older) and Antibody Testing and we are also pleased to offer complete bloodwork, EKGs, medical examinations, etc. You must bring your insurance card or photo ID for those without insurance. If you are getting the Moderna vaccination, the second vaccination appointment will be performed at the Heart and Heath Medical of Massapequa office. This event is brought to you in coordination with Senator Kevin Thomas and Assemblyman Michael Montesano.

As part of her continued efforts to help homeowners reduce their property tax burden, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is bringing back in-person Property Tax Exemption Workshops, as the County experiences the highest vaccination rate in New York state.  To attend a workshop and ensure the health and safety of employees and residents, homeowners are asked to make an appointment.  Residents will be able to meet with Department of Assessment exemption specialists one-on-one to address individual questions and assist in filing for Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, or Physical Disability exemptions. The series of workshops will run August 25th through October 29th at libraries and community meeting halls throughout the county. Appointments can be made at the Hicksville Library on Monday, October 18th. 

To make an appointment, homeowners are encouraged to visit the Department of Assessment’s website homepage atwww.nassaucountyny.gov/Assessment or proceed directly to the scheduling app by clicking here.  Homeowners who do not have access to a computer or the internet may contact the Department of Assessment’s customer service line at (516) 571-1500 to make an appointment. Those who are unable to book an appointment may visit the Department of Assessment’s office located at 240 Old Country Road in Mineola from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for further assistance. 

As part of New York State’s Enhanced STAR Income Verification Program, Enhanced STAR recipients are no longer required to file a renewal application with the Department of Assessment. The state will verify STAR income eligibility and contact applicants if additional information is needed.

Get ready!  Get set!  It's Minecraft Mania!  Children will get the opportunity to play Minecraft with their friends in a multiplayer setting by tackling challenges, building magnificent creations, competing in races and even learning how to code!  This is a three-part series.  Each session will have a different theme, unrelated to the previous session's activities.

Minecraft Mania

Get ready!  Get set!  It's Minecraft Mania!  Children will get the opportunity to play Minecraft with their friends in a multiplayer setting by tackling challenges, building magnificent creations, competing in races and even learning how to code!  This is a three-part series.  Each session will have a different theme, unrelated to the previous session's activities.

Children who already have Minecraft accounts can join together to work in teams to build and play.

If you are unfamiliar and need a Minecraft account, the programmer also has up to 10 accounts that you can use on a computer or laptop, free of charge, courtesy of Minecraft Mania!  You can join the program at 6:15pm to have the programmer help with this.  The Library does not supply accounts.
