Totally 80's, Totally Murder

Poison Ratenstein is in town for a killer concert, but his fans may be looking for a refund after this twisted tour turns tragic with a murder and a mystery to solve. This radical show could be super lame if no one can solve who was buggin’ so we can all cool out and get the show started! Help the crowd and the detective figure out who ruined this totally tubular night, so everyone can, like, take a chill pill.

Make sure you are dressed with the times or someone may ask you to bag your head! Grab your most righteous ‘80s concert gear to rock out in style while you solve a crime with your friends. Jean jackets and spandex leggings, big hair, bangles, leg warmers, and ripped jeans will be all the rage at this rocking night of mystery. See you there!

How to Go To Heaven: a Discussion

Join the Northwest branch for a discussion on faith, grace, and whether works have merit in christian salvation.  When Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the Church door in 1517 he made a dramatic statement about the corruption in the Catholic Church at the time.  Luther was opposed to the sale of indulgences and believed that salvation is granted by faith alone through the grace of God alone, but was he right?  Dr. Erik Herrmann, professor of Reformation History at Concordia Seminary and Father Benedict Viviano, O.P., professor emeritus at the Aquinas Institute of Theology, will be discussing Luther’s theology and whether, as the Catholic Church teaches, we need not only faith, but also good works in order to become justified before God.

DIY Desktop Zen Garden
Immerse yourself with the Japanese culture by making a Desktop Zen Garden at the Northwest Branch! Desktop Zen gardens are designed to recreate the dry landscape gardens of Japanese Zen Buddhism on a small scale for enjoyment at your home or office to help you relieve stress, practice meditation, develop a sense of beauty, enhance creative flow, and cultivate discipline.
Rocks, gravel, or sand may be used to recreate the essence of nature; swirling patterns made in the sand represent water; and rock formations symbolize mountains or islands. Sometimes the gardens simply encourage meditation on the meaning of life. By focusing on the space rather than the rocks, one can begin to understand the Buddhist ideal of emptiness and appreciate life’s beauty.
For this event, participants will be creating the tools for raking the sand to create various patterns for those times of stress. Participants must register by Saturday, November 2nd! For ages 18 and up.
