The 1715 Treasure Fleet was a combination of two Spanish treasure fleets returning from the New World to Spain, hulls filled with treasure. The fleet set sail from Cuba on July 24, 1715, but was struck by a hurricane off the coast of Florida a few days later. Eleven of the twelve ships in the fleet wrecked, killing over 1,000 people. The sunken ships lay forgotten for more than 200 years until modern treasure hunters discovered several of them. Lawrence Erhart will lead us in a fascinating seminar about this wreck and the treasure discovered. Don’t miss it!
We are thrilled to have Lawrence Erhart give this talk. He is a rare coin and currency expert, estate buying, convention marketing, specializing in rare bank notes, obsolete notes, large currency and U.S. domestic coinage.
This program is best suited for Adults. Registration is not required.

Tellabration is a mammoth storytelling event - and that's no Tall Tale! It's a storytelling phenomenon, made up of dozens of storytelling happenings all over the world. Its purpose is to introduce adults, as well as children, to the pleasures of the oral art of storytelling. It is one of the programs offered by The Connecticut Storytelling Center, based in New London.
Ledyard Public Library will host a Tellabration for adults on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Darlene Kascak will be telling Native American stories.
Darlene Kascak is the Education Director at The Institute for American Indian Studies and is an active member of The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation and The Schaghticoke Women’s Traditional Council. She is also working with the CSDE on implementing Connecticut’s Indigenous history in the curriculum.
Darlene teaches from a Native American point of view, allowing children and adults to broaden their perspectives for a new understanding of the 12,000-year history of the Indigenous Peoples’ lives, both in the past and present. Her work brings awareness to the impact of stereotypes and myths on the perception of other cultures and the legacies of native contact with other groups.
Along with her role as an educator, she is also a Traditional Native American Storyteller, preserving oral traditions to pass down cultural knowledge and values. Her mission is to connect the stories passed down from generation to generation to recent archaeological discoveries, giving voice to these objects. Oral traditions can be used as a tool to validate or challenge academic knowledge and give shared authority to historically marginalized communities.
Hear history come alive from the oral traditions that have been passed down and preserved from one generation to the next. Come listen to the stories used to explain the great mysteries of life and teach life lessons about love, leadership, honor, and our connection to the earth.
A full listing of Tellabration sites in Connecticut with dates and times can be found by logging onto http://www.connstorycenter.org. and clicking on “Tellabration” or by calling The Connecticut Storytelling Center at 860-934-8165.

The Ledyard Public Library and Connecticut Sisters in Crime is proud to bring you An Author Talk Series that is sure to be a thrill! Each month this fall we’re bringing you a different, dynamic Connecticut crime writer to talk about their work.
Sisters in Crime Connecticut (SinC-CT) is a community dedicated to supporting mystery authors at all stages of their careers in Connecticut and beyond. Their goal is to create a vibrant community for members through events focused on craft, the business of writing, promotional opportunities, and more.
In November, Jennifer Dayton will be here to talk about her début novel “Set in Stone”
J.A. Dayton is an artist and writer. She lives on a former cranberry farm in a small, New England town. Dayton, a former newspaper columnist and supporter of local journalism, has long experience as a policy advocate on public issues. She held several elected offices, which developed her love of writing and public speaking. Her passion for culture, history and travel inspires her life and writing. When not traveling, she loses sleep reading spine-tingling, mind-bending, heart-racing thrillers. Set In Stone is her debut novel.
This program is best suited for Adults. Registration is not required. Free.
