Gladwyne- Civil War Medicine: What Went Right
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Carole Adrienne Murphy will present a talk based on her documentary series "Civil War Medicine: What Went Right."  This multi-media presentation is a sweeping look at the moment in time when medicine ceased to be considered an "art" and became understood as a "science".  The Civil War incurred one million casualties beginning at a time when probably fewer than 300 doctors in America had ever witnessed surgery or seen a gunshot wound.  It was a dramatic and evolutionary period for both medicine and humanitarian efforts.

Carole Adrienne is the Writer/Producer of a four part documentary series-in-production, "Civil War Medicine". The series features more than 3,500 rare and beautiful archival images. The script is drawn from primary source materials including letters, diaries, periodicals and memorabilia from more than 40 American libraries, archives, museums and private collections, and is sponsored by the Greater Philadelphia Film Office. Carole is the host of "Student Docs", an interview program in concert with Villanova University's Social Justice Documentary Program, airing on MLTV-Main Line Network.

Gladwyne - Making Community: Stories from the Press
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
This lecture delves into the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) exciting Spring exhibition: Making Community: Prints from Brandywine Workshop and Archives, Brodsky Center at PAFA, and Paulson Fontaine Press. Making Community celebrates printmaking, a longstanding ever-expanding artistic form, especially at PAFA. This exhibition brings together an exceptional group of nearly one hundred artworks from PAFA's Permanent Collection, selected from nearly two hundred artworks in this medium that have recently been acquired by PAFA.

Presented together, the prints contribute a compelling overview of contemporary American printmaking over the past forty years, through a rich range of traditional techniques and technologically new formats, by four generations of influential artists whose work is not frequently seen in American art museum collections.

Learn about the exciting medium of printmaking, from technique, it's history, and beyond in this whirlwind lecture!

Gladwyne - Speak: Love Your Story. Your Audience is Waiting
5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
The Gladwyne Library has the honor of hosting local author Sally Lou Oaks Loveman for a book reading on recent release, SPEAK: Love Your Story, Your Audience is Waiting on Monday March 30th.

Sally Lou Oaks Loveman, former audience producer for The Oprah Winfrey Show, lives her purpose by connecting with audiences. When she was age fourteen, she tuned into her passion for television when she was an audience member at The Mike Douglas Show.

In her new book Speak: Love Your Story. Your Audience is Waiting, Sally Lou takes on a new audience – an audience of readers! Just like her pre-show warm-up at The Oprah Winfrey Show, Speak is participatory. Readers are invited to join in on the lessons shared in each chapter, and by the end of the book, her new audience has a start to their own story. Blending the genres of memoir and self-improvement, Speak shares Sally Lou’s story while offering tips to help readers become better speakers and storytellers. Filled with humor and truth, Speak encourages readers to speak, speak up, speak their story, speak their truth, and live a life where love always speaks. It doesn’t matter if you are a CEO, a celebrity, a super model, a spin instructor, a student, or a stay-at-home-mom or dad, speaking well in front of others is not only a career asset, it’s also a life asset.
