As part of the Lyme Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Read Beyond the Beaten Path”, local artist Kisten Thornton will be having attendees (from grades 6 to 12) paint bird houses and posts to be placed around Lyme and Old Lyme by the Lyme Garden Club, Lyme Parks and Recreation Department and the Lyme Land Trust. This is a 2-part event with the second meeting taking place on July 19th. Pizza and beverages will be provided to the attendees.
This special event is made possible as part of a generous co-sponsoring project between the Lyme Public Library and Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau.

The Lyme Public Library is very pleased to welcome author, Ayurvedic counselor and certified yoga instructor Claire Ragozzino to host a 4-part series of Ayurvedic workshops at the library via Zoom. In these workshops you will learn the basics of Ayurvedic medicine and learn how to cook and move in order to live more holistically. Claire is the author of “Living Ayurveda” and will be supplying attendees with recipes and shopping lists so that you can “cook along” with her during the presentation. In tonight’s workshop we will be concentrating on foods to help balance the Pitta Dosha.

Join us for this collaborative book club between the Lyme Public Library and the Lyme's Senior Center which we are calling the "As the Page Turns" club. Each month we will be discussing a selected book, copies of which can be picked up at the Lyme Library's circulation desk (just speak to a staff member) in multiple formats (regular print, large print and audio). The club will be alternating the location of the meetings between the Lyme Public Library at 482 Hamburg Road in Lyme and the Lyme's Senior Center at 26 Town Woods Road, Old Lyme. Participants of all ages welcome.

As part of the Lyme Public Library’s “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” summer reading program a special event will be led by local geologist Ralph Lewis. Mr. Lewis will start his presentation at the library where he will conduct a short lecture on the terms he will be using when he leads all the attendees through Lyme’s Banningwood Preserve where he will be pointing out the remarkable and unique geological elements found only in Lyme. The program will start at the library at 8:30am and participants will then meet up at Banningwood Preserve at 9:15. This event is for children ages 12 and up with their caregivers and limited to 12 participants.

As part of our summer reading program "Read Beyond the Beaten Path" the Lyme library will be welcoming representatives from the Mystic Aquarium's educational staff, who will be bringing along their traveling touch tank. Filled with an assortment of live invertebrates such as lobsters, horseshoe crabs, and shellfish this will be a fun and educational experience for kids of all ages.

The History of the Blues with Ramblin' Dan Stevens is an entertaining and educational program encompassing the history of blues music in America from its origins in the African American tradition of the deep south to the present. This multi-media presentation of classic blues pieces played on authentic vintage instruments will be interspersed with historical images, video and educational material. Presenter "Ramblin" Dan Stevens is a veteran touring bluesman and teacher who has entertained audiences throughout the US, Germany, UK, Canada and Virgin Islands

Today’s Theme: Sharing



Lyme is uniquely situated to offer access to some rare geological highlights that you might never have known about. Local geologist Ralph Lewis will lead a walk through Pleasant Valley Preserve to lecture on and point out some of these noteworthy landmarks. This presentation will start at 8:30am at Pleasant Valley Preserve where participants (ages 18 and up) will walk the preserve and discuss the scientific significance of the area.

As part of the library’s summer reading program local astronomer Alan Sheiness will be meeting participants at the Lyme Land Trust Dark Sky Observation Site (directions to the site will be distributed to registrants before the night of the event) with his telescopes at the ready so that kids and caregivers can get an up-close look at t number of fantastic stars, constellations, the Milky Way and various deep-sky objects in the dark night sky. Talk about going “beyond the beaten path”! Mr. Sheiness will be provided instruction and a number of other local astronomers will be present with their telescopes so that participants can move from one telescope to another to view a variety of objects in the sky.
