Virtual Author Talk: Jeffrey Archer

Join us for a very special virtual event! Bestselling author Jeffrey Archer will discuss his latest book, Over My Dead Body, via Zoom. Register below to receive the Zoom link. The link will be emailed to you 30 minutes prior to the event.

How To Buy Jeffrey's Book: Signed copies of Over My Dead Body will be available for sale before and during the event from our bookstore partner -- Haley Booksellers.

About The Author: Jeffrey Archer is one of the world’s bestselling authors, with sales of over 275 million copies in 97 countries, and is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (twenty times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries). He was born in London, and brought up in the West Country. He gained a Blue in Athletics at Oxford, was President of the University Athletics Club, and went on to run the 100 yards in 9.6 seconds for Great Britain in 1966. Jeffrey has served five years in the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament, and twenty-nine years as a Member of the House of Lords. Learn more about Jeffrey HERE.

About the Book: Over My Dead Body is an unputdownable story of murder, revenge and betrayal from international number one bestseller Jeffrey Archer. The clock is ticking in this rollercoaster ride of a thriller. In London, the Metropolitan Police set up a new Unsolved Murders Unit―a cold case squad―to catch the criminals nobody else can. In Geneva, millionaire art collector Miles Faulkner―convicted of forgery and theft―was pronounced dead two months ago. So why is his unscrupulous lawyer still representing a dead client? On a luxury liner en route to New York, the battle for power within a wealthy dynasty is about to turn to murder. And at the heart of all three investigations are Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick, rising star of the department, and ex-undercover agent Ross Hogan, brought in from the cold. But can they catch the killers before it’s too late?

This event is hosted by the Tewksbury Public Library in collaboration with Haley Booksellers, the Lynnfield Public Library, and many other Massachusetts Public Libraries. Thank you to the Friends of the Lynnfield Library for sponsoring this event.

Author Event: Ted Reinstein

Join us for an author talk with Chronicle Reporter Ted Reinstein about his new book Before Brooklyn: The Unsung Heroes Who Helped Break Baseball’s Color Barrier. In April, 1945, exactly two years before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in major league baseball, liberal Boston City Councilman Izzy Muchnick persuaded the Red Sox to try out three black players in  return for a favorable vote to allow the team to play on Sundays. The Red Sox got the councilman’s much-needed vote, but the tryout was a sham; the three players would get no closer to the major  leagues. It was a lost battle in a war that was ultimately won by Robinson in 1947. This book tells the story of the little-known heroes who fought segregation in baseball, from communist  newspaper reporters to the Pullman car porters who saw to it that black newspapers espousing integration in professional sports reached the homes of blacks throughout the country. It also  reminds us that the first black player in professional baseball was not Jackie Robinson but Moses Fleetwood Walker in 1884, and that for a time integrated teams were not that unusual. And then, as segregation throughout the country hardened, the exclusion of blacks in baseball quietly became the norm, and the battle for integration began anew.

This event will be held in the Lynnfield Meeting House. Please register in advance. Thank you to the Friends of the Lynnfield Library for sponsoring this event.

A Cultural and Historical Reflection of the 1960s Through the Music of The Beatles

Now rescheduled on Zoom!

The Beatles are the most influential band in history. In 1964, their breakout moment was on The Ed  Sullivan Show, where an estimated 73 million viewers tuned in to see the “Lads from Liverpool” in  their first live American television performance. On April 4, 1964, they became the only artists to  ever occupy the top five spots of the Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously. With landmark albums  like Revolver and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, they consistently broke musical barriers.  They have sold more than one billion records. As a testament to their longevity and popularity, their  album titled 1, containing all their #1 hits, was the best-selling album of the 2000s. Their music is timeless and appeals to fans in every generation.

This performance combines live music and lecture to explore, not only the music of The Beatles, but the influence they exerted in every area of the cultural landscape.

The presenter is Fran Hart, founding member of the Beatles Tribute Band 4EverFab.

This program is funded by a grant from the Lynnfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Please register in advance to receive log in information. The Zoom link will be sent to you 30 minutes prior to the event.
