Reading Rocks! A Virtual Music, Bubble, and Comedy Show

Reading Rocks! A Virtual Music, Bubble, and Comedy Show features wonderful classic and original children’s songs and tales. The show engages children with songs, comedy, bubbles, and music technology. Join us for this 40-minute performance which will be accompanied by visual and sensory experiences. Kids will dance, sing, laugh, use their imaginations and connect with new friends. The show is crafted to be inclusive for all children, including children on the Autism Spectrum, and a great time for parents and caregivers!

Open to children of all ages and their families. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. If you are registering more than one child who will share a screen, please fill out one form and note the total number of children. You will receive the link in the email you use for registration the afternoon of the event.

On Wednesday, June 23, join naturalist and landscaper John Root to learn how to create a nature sanctuary in your backyard to attract birds, butterflies, bees and other beneficials by meeting their needs for food, cover, and water. A variety of plants that nourish these organisms throughout their life cycles will be discussed, and organic methods for creating and maintaining a wildlife habitat will also be presented. Handouts will be downloadable, and comments and questions will be welcome at the conclusion of the program.

This program is offered in collaboration with the Reading, Melrose, and Wakefield public libraries.

Summer Fun at Your Library: Virtual Comic Mime Show

Are you excited that school is out, the weather is warm, and (most importantly) Summer Reading is right around the corner? This is a pure celebration of everything that we love about summer. Comic mime Robert Rivest performs his favorite stories about summer and invites audience members to join in. Stories about the sun, swimming, camping, travel, friendship, ice cream, late nights, lightning bugs and more! This fun family show is full of audience participation! In addition to Robert’s humorous and inspirational mime theater stories, everyone will learn amazing mime illusions and how to create their own mime story. Together, we will act out exciting characters and stories highlighting summer fun! 

Open to children of all ages and their families. Register to receive the Zoom link. Davis Bates and Roger Tincknell will be performing songs and stories about the diversity and wonder of the natural world. Enjoy songs about critters, nature and environmental awareness, just so stories, creation myths, and more. There will even be a short lesson on how to play the spoons and an appearance by a dancing wooden dog named Bingo!

Recommended for ages 4+ but open to all children and their families.

Funded in part by the Lynnfield Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. This performance will take place on the MarketStreet Green.

Do you like music? Do you want to listen to ukulele music and even learn a little about how to play one? Come to The Ukulele Show! Dave Maloof will talk about and show ukulele types, history, construction, sizes and tunings, as well as the basics of playing them, while you enjoy songs sung and played on ukuleles of various sizes and sounds.
