MARILYN MONROE with Marilyn Carminio
2:00 PM

The Girl, the Woman & the Legend
She had a luminous quality. A combination of wistfulness, radiance, and yearning that set her apart and made everyone wish to be part of it – to share in the childish naiveté which was at once so shy and yet so vibrant
. –Lee Strasberg

Nearly 60 years after her death Marilyn Monroe remains an American cultural icon. Since her death in 1962, biographers have tried to define the mystery of her allure. She is a study in contrasts: beautiful and sexy yet sweet and vulnerable, sensitive and insecure.
As a girl Norma Jean Baker lived in a fantasy world and dreamed of being a movie star. Overcoming a chaotic childhood defined by multiple foster homes and the mental illness of her mother, Norma Jean had an intense desire to succeed and created the blonde bombshell persona of Marilyn Monroe. Off screen she was a humanitarian, an early supporter of civil rights, and a lover of books.

Northwell Presents: FALLS PREVENTION
2:00 PM

DON'T MISS THIS LIFE SAVING LECTURE with Lori Ginsberg, RN, MA

Every second of the day in the United States, an older adult falls—making falls the leading cause of injury and deaths from injury among older Americans. Falls and fall injuries are more common than strokes and can result in health problems that are just as serious.  Falls are also the number one reason older adults lose their independence.  Falling, however, is not an inevitable part of aging and many falls are preventable.  Taking some simple steps to prevent falls can help you or those you love stay active, confident and independent.

Northwell Presents: WHAT IS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AND WHAT KIND OF CHALLENGES DO PEOPLE WITH MS FACE?
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

with Asaff Harel MD

Multiple Sclerosis is a long-lasting, autoimmune disease that can affect the brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves in the eyes. Multiple Sclerosis happens when the immune system attacks the coating surrounding nerve fibers, causing nerve damage. This damage means that the brain cannot send signals through the body correctly.  This can cause problems with vision, muscle control, balance, and other basic functions.  While there are several common symptoms, the effects and severity of the disease are highly variable and are often different for each individual.  Some people have mild symptoms, but others can have lots of trouble getting around and going about daily activities.  Existing treatment, as well as research studies, are aimed at trying to improve the life of people with Multiple Sclerosis.

TEOTIHUACAN with Professor Thomas Germano
2:00 PM

Teotihuacan is a vast Mexican archaeological complex 30 miles northeast of Mexico City. It has long been referred to as "The Place Where The Gods Were Created." Built between the 1st and 7th century AD, Teotihuacan is renown for it's two massive pyramidal structures dedicated to the Sun and the Moon and laid out with geometric and symbolic planning with cosmic meaning. Running through the century of the site is what the later day Aztecs (14th-16th century) mistakenly called "The Avenue of the Dead." Before its mysterious fall in the 7th century, Teotihuacan extended its cultural and artistic influence throughout the region attracting Zapotec, and Maya cultures to visit and live in the city. We see evidence of trade, conquest, science, politics, and cross cultural influences from Teotihuacan spread across Mesoamerica. With recent discoveries and art from Teotihuacan exhibited in Mexico and California (2017-18), Professor Thomas Germano will present a visual lecture concentrating on the painting, sculpture, architecture and utilitarian objects of art from this important cultural and political center.
