Page to Screen Movie Club

Pull up a seat and enjoy a screening of Wonder (PG)!  We will have pizza and chat about how this story moved from page to screen.

Just for this special meeting, we're opening the club to grades 4 and up!

Want to read the book?  Copies are available at the Circulation Desk.

From Goodreads: August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

Wonder is rated PG.  You can check out this review here for more information on whether this film will be suitable for your Tween or Teen.

REGISTER TODAY!  (while the registration form only goes down to 6th grade, please comment in the notes if your child is in 4th or 5th grade instead)

“Hooked on Books” Book Club for Intermediate Readers

Are you an intermediate reader who is ready to explore chapter books? Do you like to have fun? Are you “hooked on books?” Then our monthly after-school book club is for you! Each month we will explore a different genre or format.  This month, read I've Lost My Hippopotamus, then join Kerry for a book talk, a snack and fun activity.  (Recommended for intermediate readers)

Copies of this month's selection are available at the circulation desk.

This month's genre/format: Poetry

In the tradition of Jack Prelutsky's classic poetry collections The New Kid on the Block, It's Raining Pigs & Noodles, and A Pizza the Size of the Sun, here is a book packed with more than 100 funny poems and silly pictures. Most of the poems are about animals—some are big and some are small, some have unusual interests, and some are just plain unusual.

Adult Book Club

This month the Adult Book Club is reading You Will Know Me: A Novel by Megan Abbott

"How far will you go to achieve a dream? That's the question a celebrated coach poses to Katie and Eric Knox after he sees their daughter Devon, a gymnastics prodigy and Olympic hopeful, compete. For the Knoxes there are no limits, until a violent death rocks their close-knit gymnastics community and everything they have worked so hard for is suddenly at risk. As rumors swirl among the other parents, Katie tries frantically to hold her family together while also finding herself irresistibly drawn to the crime itself. What she uncovers about her daughter's fears, her own marriage, and herself forces Katie to consider whether there's any price she isn't willing to pay to achieve Devon's dream."

To check availability or place a hold, please see the catalog.  Copies of the book in various formats can also be picked up anytime at the circulation desk prior to the meeting.

Learn more about the Book Club on our website.
