Zoom Author Talk with Christopher Klein 'When the Irish Invaded Canada'
7:00 PM

Presented by the Kingston Public Library:

In his book, When the Irish Invaded Canada: The Incredible True Story of the Civil War Veterans Who Fought for Ireland’s Freedom, Christopher Klein tells how thousands of Civil War veterans who had fled to the United States rather than perish in the wake of the Great Hunger still considered themselves Irishmen first and Americans second. With the tacit support of the U.S. government, the Fenian Brotherhood carried out a series of five attacks on Canada. This motley group established a state in exile, planned prison breaks, weathered infighting, stockpiled weapons, assassinated enemies, and managed to seize a piece of Canada—if only for three days.

Christopher Klein is a Drew University graduate. He’s the author of Strong Boy: The Life and Times of John L. Sullivan, America’s First Sports Hero, Discovering the Boston Harbor Islands: A Guide to the City’s Hidden Shores, and The Die Hard Sports Fan’s Guide to Boston.

Career Skills: Interview Workshop, Part Two: Tell Me About Yourself
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Presented by the Boston Public Library:

Often the most common question that begins an interview is, "Tell me about yourself." Job applicants should welcome this question with open arms as it gives them a beautiful chance to talk about themselves in the most positive light. The concern for most people is that it is too big a canvas. The question is very general and most people don't know where to start, what to include, and when to end their answer. This is a critical part of the interview because it is often the very first question that is asked and sets the stage for the remainder of the interview. In this workshop, we will discuss best practices as it relates to what to say, what examples to highlight, where to begin, and when/where to end to make it a compelling story. This highly interactive workshop will leave you with a new-found confidence about how to talk about yourself.

Registered participants will receive a Zoom link the day before the event.
