Film Workshop (Ages 11-17)

A three-part workshop to introduce you to the basics of making your own film.

In the course of the class we will make a short film to be shown in the library.

Science Enrichment Program (Grades 5-8)

The goal of the Science Enrichment Program is to help middle and upper elementary school students understand concepts in chemistry, physics, earth science and biology. Volunteers will also assist students in preparing for science competitions including the Science Bowl and Science Olympiad. General questions will be addressed and topics of interest will be discussed where they require more clarity.

Teen Take-Out Craft: Mini Frappuccino Pen Holders!

The Library will provide supplies and instructions for making a mini pen holder that looks like a Starbucks Frappuccino!  Your job is to take a kit home and have fun putting it together!  Better yet, unlike a library book, this is yours to keep!

ABC Play is an unstructured play and learn period that has letter-learning toys to promote early literacy. These rotating materials will be out in the youth department near the Library's Picture Books and Early Readers.

We have: magnetic letters, block sets, flash cards and phonics sets, snap and learn letter sets, felt board alphabets, carpet squares, chalk boards and beading letters.
It is for caregivers and children ages 1-5.

Registration is not required, drop in any time during the hour.  Cleanup begins an hour after start time.

This chess club is a session of informative learning about several aspects of chess. This club will be an opportunity for student learners to gain a tactical advantage over their opponents by applying logical strategies. The strategies can be applied in the opening, middle, and end phases of the game. They will also be introduces to traditional weaknesses in pawn positions. After in-depth knowledge of the strategies provided, students would be ready to play in local tournaments.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a self-paced program that encourages you to read 1000 books with your child before he or she starts school.

Independent (on-your-own) play time for children to encourage balance, agility and fun. Staff will put basic items out, and other materials can be arranged by you. We ask that you tidy items up when finished.

Area for play is in the rear of the youth department.

Available for you to play with: 8 flat scooter boards, color cones, plastic balance beams, kid-sized traffic safety signs, color cushions, small ride-on vehicles, stacking cups, shape and color activity mats and decorative rugs.  

Roll and swivel on the flat scooters or practice with the rugs and other props to: jump, turn, count, or move in patterns to recognize colors and shapes.   

Caregivers must supervise for safety; cleanup will begin about an hour after set up.

Drop in any time between 2-5pm, and visit our Mailbox Activity Station!  Write a postcard to your friendly librarian (or anyone you know), then decorate it with markers, rubber stamps, and stickers!  Add a diy stamp and place it in our toy mailbox. “Mail” will be collected at 5pm and displayed in the Children’s Department.  Each week will have a different writing prompt to get you started, but you can write about whatever you'd like.

Drop in any time between 3-5pm, and visit our Mailbox Activity Station!  Write a postcard to your friendly librarian (or anyone you know), then decorate it with markers, rubber stamps, and stickers!  Add a diy stamp and place it in our toy mailbox. “Mail” will be collected at 5pm and displayed in the Children’s Department.  Each week will have a different writing prompt to get you started, but you can write about whatever you'd like.

This chess club is a session of informative learning about several aspects of chess. This club will be an opportunity for student learners to gain a tactical advantage over their opponents by applying logical strategies. Independent (on-your-own) play time for children to encourage balance, agility and fun. Staff will put basic items out, and other materials can be arranged by you. We ask that you tidy items up when finished.

Area for play is in the rear of the youth department.

Available for you to play with: 8 flat scooter boards, color cones, plastic balance beams, kid-sized traffic safety signs, color cushions, small ride-on vehicles, stacking cups, shape and color activity mats and decorative rugs.  

Roll and swivel on the flat scooters or practice with the rugs and other props to: jump, turn, count, or move in patterns to recognize colors and shapes.   

Caregivers must supervise for safety; cleanup will begin about an hour after set up.
