This program is a great way to introduce your child to library story times and reading. Age appropriate books are shared with the group. Drop in any time between 2-5pm, and visit our Mailbox Activity Station!  Write a postcard to your friendly librarian (or anyone you know), then decorate it with markers, rubber stamps, and stickers!  Add a diy stamp and place it in our toy mailbox. “Mail” will be collected at 5pm and displayed in the Children’s Department.  Each week will have a different writing prompt to get you started, but you can write about whatever you'd like.

Introduction to Greek Mythology (For rising 3rd and 4th graders)

Join AoPs Academy Princeton as we delve into a story that will take us on a journey back in time about 3,000 years to Ancient Greece! In this workshop students will: 

- Read a myth about the rivalry between Athena and Poseidon 

- Learn how the story of this rivalry explains the origins of Athens

- Learn how to annotate and why annotating makes us stronger readers

- Leran how authors use nouns to characterize their characters

- Practice writing and using nouns of their own to characterize the gods

Sympathetic with the Bolshevik revolution, but shaken by the wars and purges, he struggles to retain his individualism as a humanist amid the spirit of collectivism.

Collage Containers

Make your own personalized, collaged container for your room!  A throw back to the murals we made as kids of collages made from clippings from magazines to hang on our walls!

We’ll cut out favorite pictures from children’s nature magazines, and with colorful tissue paper and an upcycled quart size yogurt container, mod podge a useful container for our favorite things!

The Sixties: The British Invasion

In this lecture rock historian Vincent Bruno will focus on the phenomenal rise of the British pop and rock acts that invaded our shores in the 1960s – from pop groups (The Beatles, The Dave Clark 5, The Animals, The Kinks) to the psychedelic and progressive bands (The Who, Pink Floyd, Cream, Traffic). He will explore highlights from landmark recordings that clearly defined this British pop renaissance era. This journey will also include aspects of British popular culture (cinema, fashion, TV and UK underground) whose influence added to the impact of this remarkable decade. Registration is suggested.

Bucket Book Club: Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri

The Lawrence Library Poetry Circle and Bucket Book Club are planning a two-session summer reading of Dante’s masterpiece, The Divine Comedy (1555).  It is universally known as one of the great poems of world literature. While the first session focuses on its translations, an overview of Dante's life, the political and religious background reflected in The Divine Comedy, the second session on August 30, will focus on the epic poem itself, especially on the first cantica Inferno, and its impact on readers and the rest of the literature world. Registration is suggested.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a self-paced program that encourages you to read 1000 books with your child before he or she starts school.
