Friday Morning Bookies: A Spool of Blue Thread, by Anne Tyler
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Adult Program

“'It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon.'” This is the way Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in love with Red that day in July 1959. The whole family—their two daughters and two sons, their grandchildren, even their faithful old dog—is on the porch, listening contentedly as Abby tells the tale they have heard so many times before. And yet this gathering is different too: Abby and Red are growing older, and decisions must be made about how best to look after them, and the fate of the house so lovingly built by Red’s father." —Provided by publisher.

Philosophy of Karma Insight Session
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

What goes around comes around…Life is made up of action and reaction – nothing less. One of the most essential laws of the universe is the Law of Karma; for every action, there is a reaction of the same proportion as the original action.

Our universe is a hall of mirrors, each moment a reflection of an earlier scene or interaction. Which means, of course, that each moment is a unique opportunity to avoid doing anything that will bring us future pain and, instead, sow a seed that will bring us the sweetest of fruits. Our consciousness behind every action is creating our life and this understanding becomes an incentive to create pure and positive karma. You can draw the line of your destiny with the pen of your elevated actions.

Please join us as we explore the philosophy of karma.

Facilitated by library staff member Leena, a 10 year practitioner of Rajyoga meditation, delivers youth and adult programs on values and facilitates workshops on topics such as Harmony in Relationships, Stress Free Living, & more. She conducts classes at different Brahmakumaris locations including Piscataway New Jersey and at Peace Village Retreat Center in New York.
