Our job as writers is to create emotion in our readers. We aren’t trying to reveal what our characters are feeling, but rather to make our readers feel right along with them, and to believe in the characters and their world. This workshop explains what concrete, significant details are, and how to use them to make your reader feel as though they’re dreaming with eyes wide open. Lauren will use a combination of lecture and writing exercises, so be sure to bring pen and paper.  The lessons will be reviewed and implemented during the second part of the workshop on November 17, without Lauren being present. Tapping: Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Adult Program

EFT is at the forefront of the emerging energy psychology field. It’s a relatively new approach that combines acupuncture with modern psychology—without the needles! By gentle tapping on acupressure points while tuning into whatever problem you want to work on, the distress subsides and you’re left with a new sense of emotional freedom. It’s that easy.

The introductory lecture includes the history and science of this technique, fascinating stories, and a chance to try it out yourself. Carol Bemmels learned EFT 18 years ago, and it completely changed the way she helps people. As a masters-level counselor, she’s worked in many settings: a shelter for battered women, hospitals, schools, and community agencies. She’s lectured and trained people internationally in peace and peer counseling techniques. She currently has a private practice in Hopewell, NJ.

Registration is suggested, though walk-ins are welcome. Registration begins on October 22. Call 609-799-0462.

Poetry Circle: Charles Baudelaire
7:00 PM

The French poet Charles Baudelaire established for himself a unique place in literature, with poems that demonstrate brilliant skill with poetic forms, and express the new realities of life in Paris, which underwent a stunning transformation during his lifetime. His works represent to many readers the beginning of modern poetry, and indeed, he is credited with coining the term modernité (modernity). He used traditional forms in new ways, and also developed the use of prose poems. He showed that a poet chooses his own style, and can feel free to disregard all rules of poetry if he chooses. Registration is suggested.

This is a graphic program and is not suitable for young children.
