Alphabet Alley is an unstructured play and learn period that has letter-learning toys to promote early literacy. The materials will be out in the youth department near the Library's Picture Books and Early Readers. 

It is for caregivers and children ages 1-5.

Winter Birch Trees Watercolor-Resist Art

Create a beautiful winter landscape with this easy watercolor-resist technique.  

We'll use removable washi tape to fashion tree trunks and branches, then paint a blue watercolor wash overall. 
 
Lastly, we'll remove the tape, add some finishing touches, and voila!  Enjoy the beautiful winter scene you've created!

Concert with Presley & Melody: Rockin’ Winter Wonderland!

For ages 6 and under, with a caregiver. Siblings and families are welcome.  A large Lawrence school group will also be in attendance.

As Songwriters/Musicians, Presley and Melody write it - compose it - sing it and “rock out” at their concerts, providing non-stop dancing and upbeat children’s music.  The instantaneous audience  connection transforms fans from “spectators to participators” as children become “Stars on Stage” in this creative concert experience. 

Online registration is required, starting at 7am the day of the program (12/4).

A large Lawrence school group will be in attendance for this show.  Additional space is limited.  Preference may be give to patrons with a valid MCLS library card. On the day of the show, patrons who have not registered may be admitted if space permits.

Intro to Programming Using Raspberry Pi (Grades 4-8)

You may repeat books as often as you like.  You can reach 365 books in a year if you read every night; 730 books in two years; and 1,095 books in three years. Big building block free playtime for preschoolers, with caregiver supervision. Cleanup will begin at 11am.

Oversized plastic building blocks will be out in the department for kids to play with, in cooperation with others who are persent. Children may need to take turns. Projects will be taken apart in order for the next interested child to play and create. We have 384 pieces.

The Winter Reading Challenge,

Alphabet Alley is an unstructured play and learn period that has letter-learning toys to promote early literacy. The materials will be out in the youth department near the Library's Picture Books and Early Readers. 

Materials include rotating: magenetic letters, blocks, PreK flash cards, matching activities, felt board, carpet squares, coloring sheets, chalk boards and beading letters.

It is for caregivers and children ages 1-5.

Registration is not required, drop in any time during the hour.  Cleanup begins an hour after start time.

Christmas and Holiday Station for Children

Join us as we get ready for the holidays! For children of all ages.
Our tables in the youth department will have rotating drop-in activities for children and families. These will be self-directed crafts for you to do on your own. Children will require caregiver supervision. Crafts will not be available to take out. Children should be present in the Library to participate.
Cleanup will begin about an hour after start time.  At times some activities will also be available when unscheduled.


No registration is needed.  Activities will repeat and may include the following at any one time:
Take your own photo in front of our inflatable Buddy the Elf character.
Reindeer paper & peppermint craft, make colorful construction paper chains, holiday tangrams.
