Friends of the Lawrence Library Book Sale

Thousands of used, gently-read books will be available at the Friends of the Lawrence Library Book Sale. A special preview night will be held Friday, January 18. The library will be closed for normal operations during the preview event but you will have the first chance to get some amazing deals. Admission to the Preview Night is free for members of the Friends of the Lawrence Library, $5 for the general public, and $20 for booksellers. This event is the only time booksellers will be permitted to use scanning devices.

Children may stop at the children’s activity room at any point between 11:00 am and 12:00 noon to construct the craft of the week. A staff member will be present to aid with the craft. The projects can usually be easily adapted to meet a variety of age and skill levels.

3D Printing Classes for ages 7 & up

This is an introductory 3D printing class where students can learn 3D Printer operations and the CAD system.  They can also design 3 dimensional objects for the 3D printer and then print their creations.

Children must bring their own laptop to participate. Three programs will be held on January 5, 12, and 19.

Science Enrichment Program (Grades 5-8)

The goal of the Science Enrichment Program is to help middle and upper elementary school students understand concepts in chemistry, physics, earth science and biology. Volunteers will also assist students in preparing for science competitions including the Science Bowl and Science Olympiad. Adult Winter Reading Program

The 2019 Adult Winter Reading Program at the West Windsor Branch of the Mercer County Library System runs from Tuesday, January 2nd to Monday, February 4th. You can pick up a reading log at the Reference Desk and select a prize book. Write up to ten titles of the books you have read during the program in the log and return your log to the Reference Desk by Monday, February 4th to another prize book. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Babywearing Dance Party for ages 4-23 months

Babies love to dance!  Babywearing caregivers are invited to shake, shimmy, and slide with us as we dance our way through our playlist of fun, up-beat songs.  Bring your own baby carrier (wrap, ring sling, pouch sling, meh dai, or buckle/soft structured carrier), and make sure you and baby are comfortable using it before attending.  While having a baby carrier is recommended, it isn’t required to participate.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a self-paced program that encourages you to read 1000 books with your child before he or she starts school. 

Sound overwhelming?  We promise, it’s easier than you think!  1 book every day = 365 books in a year!  3 books every day = 1095 books in a year!

This program will run all year long so go at your own pace!  At every 100-book milestone, stop at the Youth Services Desk at the Lawrence Branch (whenever Youth Service Librarians are present) to receive a prize and your next tally sheet!

Independent (on-your-own) play time for children to encourage balance, agility and fun. Staff will put basic items out, and other materials can be arranged by you. We ask that you tidy items up when finished.

Area for play is in the rear of the youth department.

Available for you to play with: 8 flat scooter boards, color cones, plastic balance beams, kid-sized traffic safety signs, color cushions, small ride-on vehicles, stacking cups, shape and color activity mats and decorative rugs.  

Roll and swivel on the flat scooters or practice with the rugs and other props to: jump, turn, count, or move in patterns to recognize colors and shapes.   

Caregivers must supervise for safety; cleanup will begin about an hour after set up.

Available for you to play with: 8 flat scooter boards, color cones, plastic balance beams, kid-sized traffic safety signs, color cushions, small ride-on vehicles, stacking cups, shape and color activity mats and decorative rugs.  

Roll and swivel on the flat scooters or practice with the rugs and other props to: jump, turn, count, or move in patterns to recognize colors and shapes.   

Caregivers must supervise for safety; cleanup will begin about an hour after set up.

Science Enrichment Program (Grades 5-8)

Little Learners: STEAM program for Pre-K

ABC Play is an unstructured play and learn period that has letter-learning toys to promote early literacy. These rotating materials will be out in the youth department near the Library's Picture Books and Early Readers.

We have: magnetic letters, block sets, flash cards and phonics sets, snap and learn letter sets, felt board alphabets, carpet squares, chalk boards and beading letters.
It is for caregivers and children ages 1-5.

Registration is not required, drop in any time during the hour.  Cleanup begins an hour after start time.

This program is a great way to introduce your child to library story times and reading. Age appropriate books are shared with the group. Songs, nursery rhymes, puppets, and felt board figures create a rich audio-visual and social experience. After 20 minutes of structured group time, there is time for play and for socializing. This club will be an opportunity for student learners to gain a tactical advantage over their opponents by applying logical strategies. After in-depth knowledge of the strategies provided, students would be ready to play in local tournaments.

Independent (on-your-own) play time for children to encourage balance, agility and fun. Staff will put basic items out, and other materials can be arranged by you. We ask that you tidy items up when finished.

Area for play is in the rear of the youth department.

Available for you to play with: 8 flat scooter boards, color cones, plastic balance beams, kid-sized traffic safety signs, color cushions, small ride-on vehicles, stacking cups, shape and color activity mats and decorative rugs.  

Roll and swivel on the flat scooters or practice with the rugs and other props to: jump, turn, count, or move in patterns to recognize colors and shapes.   

Caregivers must supervise for safety; cleanup will begin about an hour after set up.
