Attitude of Gratitude Insight Session
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
It’s not happiness that brings us GRATITUDE. It’s gratitude that brings us HAPPINESS. The root of joy is gratefulness. "To say we feel grateful is not to say that everything in our lives is necessarily great. It just means we are aware of our blessings." ~Dr. Robert Emmons

Gratitude helps us realize what we have and this can lessen our need for always wanting more. In this session we will discuss different ways to cultivate an attitude of gratitude.

Facilitated by library staff member Leena, a 10 year practitioner of Rajyoga meditation, delivers youth and adult programs on values and facilitates workshops on topics such as Harmony in Relationships, Stress Free Living, & more. She conducts classes at different Brahmakumaris locations including Piscataway New Jersey and at Peace Village Retreat Center in New York.

Seeds to Sew: Conscious Buying Impacts Lives
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Ellyn Ito, Founder and Executive Director of local nonprofit – a member of the Fair Trade Federation – Seeds to Sew International, will discuss the impact that Seeds to Sew programs have in rural Kenya and how they affect communities here in America. Learn how the programs involve our local communities, encourage local prosperity, challenge the norm, encourage upcycling, and inspire conscious buying.

Seeds to Sew is focused on improving the lives of women and girls in impoverished communities through access to education and economic opportunities. The nonprofit is based in Hopewell, NJ and has operations in 3 subsistence farming villages in rural Kenya. Their programs enable women to learn how to sew, become empowered and independent, and girls bead bracelets or learn local crafts as a way to pay for school tuition.

With the domestic marketing and distribution efforts of the program’s Kenyan-made products, in the latter half of 2018, Seeds to Sew will implement a Mercer County-based program that will provide an opportunity for survivors of domestic violence or those recently released from incarceration to re-enter the workforce.
