Garden Toddler Storytime
10:30 AM - 11:00 AM

Join us in the Garden on Tuesday, September 15th, 22nd, and 29th at 10:30 am for stories, songs, and a craft at Toddler Storytime.  For children ages 18-36 months. Registration is for all three classes. Registration is also limited and begins Tuesday, September 1st.  This is not a drop off program. No more than two children per adult registrant. 

 

Please note the following:

  • On the morning of the program, before you enter the garden, caregivers should fill out this form for both caregiver and child- https://bit.ly/merricklibraryhealth - https://bit.ly/merricklibraryhealth
    Neither caregiver nor child or children will not be allowed into the program if yes is answered to any of the questions. This link will also be emailed to you the day before the program.

  • Masks should be worn when entering the space and you must have a clear understanding of social distancing. The caregiver is responsible for the behavior of the child or children. If social distancing cannot be maintained, you may be asked to leave the program.  Caregivers and children will be asked to use hand sanitizer when entering the garden.

  • All supplies used will be unique to child and their caretaker. If there are two children from the same household registered for a program, they will be allowed to share a table and supplies.

  • This program has very limited registration and is available for Merrick School District residents only for the first week of registration. After the first week, if spots remain open, the program will be opened to non-Merrick residents.  A library card is required for registration. Go to https://www.nassaulibrary.org/contactless-service/digital-card-application/ if you do not already have a library card. 

  • This program is weather-permitting and you may be notified the morning of the program via email if the program will need to be canceled or postponed due to weather.

Virtual Kindergarten Book Club
4:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Kindergarten Book Club is for children entering kindergarten in September 2020. Children are not expected to be reading independently. Please note that this program DOES NOT TEACH CHILDREN TO READ. The program introduces budding independent readers to early reading books, and creates a positive social atmosphere in which to share and get excited about reading. For this Book Club meeting, please read Frog and Toad Are Friendsor any of the other Frog Toad books by Arnold Lobel.  Merrick patrons can find Frog and Toad e-books on Hoopla. Facebook Storytime: September is for Apples

Virtual Baby Sign Language
10:30 AM - 11:00 AM

Christina returns virtually to the Merrick Library on Thursday, September 24th at 10:30am to teach a World of Sing and Sign Workshop. For children ages 3 months - 5 years and a caregiver. A zoom link will be emailed out the morning of the program.

Registration begins September 17th.

Virtual Paint Night
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
On Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 P.M., join other tweens/teens in creating your own work of art! Kits with a canvas and art supplies will be available for pickup on September 23. Mobile device, tablet or laptop needed. For 6th-12th grade. A Zoom invite will be emailed prior to the event.

Fall Scavenger Hunt Challenge
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

You are invited to compete against other tweens/teens in grades 6 and up in a virtual scavenger hunt challenge that will have you hunting for items in and around your house! Participants will receive a list of items to find prior to the program and will also compete head-to-head during the live Zoom event. A prize will be awarded to the person with the most items! Advance registration is required. Open to patrons from North Bellmore, Bellmore, Merrick and North Merrick Libraries in grages 6 and up.

Things are slowly getting back to “normal”! Join Jeanne for 8 weeks of yoga sessions. No registration necessary! Just tune in to our YouTube channel on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. to start your weekend refreshed.

Silhouette Leaf Craft in the Garden

Children entering grades 2-6 can join us in the library garden on Saturday, September 26th from 11:00-11:45am to create a Silhouette Leaf craft. Registration begins Friday, September 18th.

Take and Make Craft- Rainbow Scratch Bookmarks

Take and Make crafts are crafts you can pick up from the library and make at home!

Pick up materials to make bookmarks with your very own design by using a wood pencil to etch a design in rainbow colors during the week of Tuesday, September 29th through Friday, October 2nd. Crafts can be picked up Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 10:30-3:30pm and Wednednesdays 10:30-6:30pm.

This Take and Make Craft program is for tweens and teens in grades 5-12. 

Registration begins September 18th and is for Merrick School District residents.

Stromboli Making for Adults
9:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Not sure what to make for dinner? How about a homemade stromboli?

Enjoy making this stuffed bread that can easily be used to clean out the odds and ends in your fridge. This bread can turn a left over into a makeover!!! The Baking Coach will supply the basic ingredients, you will fill in with the rest.

You will need a rolling pin and to have on hand:

2 cups of shredded mozzerella

A total of 2 cups of your choice of veggies-for example, broccoli, peppers and onions

pre-cooked meat-Chicken, sausage, salami or pepperoni

We will supply the rest of the ingredients.

Registration begins Monday, September 14 for Merrick residents only. Pick up ingredients Tuesday, September 22.

Harvest Pumpkin Bread with Chef Rob

Chef Rob has created "grab and go" kits for his delicious Harvest Pumpkin Bread. Each kit will contain all of the non-perishable ingredients, a recipe card, and a YouTube link so you can make this yummy recipe along with Chef Rob. All you will need to add are 2 eggs, vegetable oil, and 1 small can of pumpkin.

Pumpkin Bread kits can be picked up beginning Monday, October 19th - Saturday October 24th.

Registration begins Friday, October 9th for Merrick School District residents. One registration per family.

Halloween Family Bingo Night
6:30 PM - 7:15 PM

Children in grades K-6 are invited to compete in a fun game of Halloween Bingo against their siblings and friends on Monday, October 19th from 6:30-7:15pm. Prizes will be distributed for those who win a round. An invitation to the Zoom event and a link for a Bingo card will be emailed the day before the program. Bingo cards can be printed out or played on a smart phone, tablet or on the computer. If you are printing out the Bingo card make several copies as we will be playing more than one round. Siblings need to register separately.
