Family Fun with PlayHooray in the Garden

Join us in the Garden! Children and their caregivers will enjoy singing, dancing, and playing with PlayHooray.

 Registration is very limited and begins Friday, October 9th.  This is not a drop off program. No more than two children per adult registrant.

  • On the morning of the program, before you enter the garden, caregivers should fill out this form for both caregiver and child- https://bit.ly/merricklibraryhealth -
    Neither caregiver nor child or children will not be allowed into the program if yes is answered to any of the questions. This link will also be emailed to you the day before the program.

  • Masks should be worn when entering the space and you must have a clear understanding of social distancing. The caregiver is responsible for the behavior of the child or children. If social distancing cannot be maintained, you may be asked to leave the program.  Caregivers and children will be asked to use hand sanitizer when entering the garden.  Caregivers must wear a mask during the program.

  • This program is weather-permitting and you may be notified the morning of the program via email if the program will need to be canceled or postponed due to weather.

Take and Make Mummy Pumpkin

Looking for a fun and easy way to decorate your pumpkin for Halloween!  Let us supply the materials for you to make an adorable Mummy Pumpkin at home. 

Pickup up your Mummy Pumpkin Craft Kit during the week of Monday, October 26th through Saturday, October 30th. Kits can be picked up Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 10:30am-3:30pm and Wednednesdays 10:30-6:30pm. This Take and Make Craft program is for children in Grades K-6.

If you've always been curious what you can do with computer coding, then this class is for you! Classes will be on Thursday, October 15, 22, and 29 at 4:00 p.m. Registration is required. 

In this three-week program for beginners, Millenial Science will teach students in grades 4-8 the basics of visual block coding on Tynker then progress to text-based coding using Javascript and Python. A Zoom invitation will be sent prior to the first program.

Hear about the lives of famous inventors such as Thomas Edison and Marie Curie before rolling up your sleeves and creating your own futuristic invention using an assortment of recycled materials.  Program craft kits can be picked up during current library hours beginning Tuesday, November 3rd. Registration begins October 16th.

Prizes will be distributed for those who win a round. An invitation to the Zoom event and a link for a Bingo card will be emailed the day of the program. Bingo cards can be printed out or played on a smart phone, tablet or on the computer. If you are printing out the Bingo card make several copies as we will be playing more than one round. Siblings need to register separately.

Recipes will be posted to the Library's Facebook Page and on Instagram on December 6th so patrons will have time to purchase their own ingredients.  No registration required.

Learn to Draw a Gingerbread House with Art Teacher Amy

Join Art Teacher Amy on Zoom, Tuesday, December 15th at 4:30pm to learn to draw a Gingerbread House! Have paper and pencils, markers or crayons available for the program. For children in grades K-5th.  Registration begins Friday, December 4th.

Take and Bake: Cinnamon Swirl Chocolate Chip Bread

Looking for something fun to do over the holiday break? Take home a Take and Bake: Cinnamon Swirl Chocolate Chip Bread kit! Each kit will contain all of the non-perishable ingredients, a recipe card, and a YouTube link so you can make this yummy recipe along with Chef Rob. All you will need to add is one egg, buttermilk, vegtable oil, and vanilla. Kits will be available for pick up begining December 21st through December 26th (the Library closes as 12:30pm on December 24th and will be closed December 25th).  Registration is for Merrick residents only and begins Friday, December 11th.  Recommnded for ages 4 and up. One registration per family.
