Community Focus Group

The Millicent Library is thrilled to announce the launch of a series of community focus groups as part of its strategic planning process. This initiative offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of library services for the Fairhaven community.

The first of two in person focus group will be held on Monday, October 7, at 6:30 PM in the Rita E. Steele Auditorium at the library. All community members are invited to participate and share their thoughts on how the library can evolve to better meet the needs of the community.

This is your chance to help identify opportunities and challenges as the library works to strengthen services and best support the informational, cultural, recreational and educational needs of the community.

Whether you're a frequent library user or a first-time visitor, your input is invaluable in helping the library create a roadmap for future growth and service improvements.

A second in person and a separate Zoom focus group will be announced soon. Additionally, the library will be releasing a survey in the coming weeks to gather even more community feedback.

Thank you in advance for your participation!

Old Time Fiddle Sessions

Old Time Fiddle Session and Community Gathering at Millicent Library

Join us for an afternoon of traditional fiddling and community merrymaking at the Millicent Library! Since 2017, the Old Time Fiddle Session and Community Gathering has been a cornerstone of free, inclusive social music programming for the Southcoast communities.

About Old Time Fiddle Session and Community Gathering:

Since its inception, Old Time Fiddle Session has welcomed an ever-growing number of participants, fostering a vibrant community of musicians and enthusiasts. The event is open to the public and encourages people at any stage of their musical journey to join in. The session not only draws local talent but also attracts fiddlers from neighboring states and regions, creating a dynamic and diverse musical experience.

Over the past six years, the Old Time Fiddle Session has taken place in various prestigious locations, including the New Bedford Folk Festival, the Lloyd Center for the Environment, the NB Roots and Branches Festival, and several farmers markets across the Southcoast. During the pandemic, the session continued virtually, ensuring that the music and community spirit thrived.

About Jeffrey Angeley:

Jeffrey Angeley, the organizer behind the Old Time Fiddle Session, is a dedicated music instructor with a passion for fostering inclusive community events. With over a decade of experience and a commitment to free public music instruction, Jeffrey has organized numerous successful events and festivals. His work includes the monthly traditional music series, open mics, silent movie screenings with live music, and various concert series. Jeffrey's efforts have earned him multiple accolades, including the Wicked Cool Places grant.

Join us on June 8th to celebrate the joy of traditional music and community spirit. Bring your instruments, your enthusiasm, and your friends for an unforgettable afternoon of music on the beautiful lawn of the Millicent Library. You are welcome to bring your own seating or use seating provided by the library. In case of rain, the event will move to the library auditorium located at the Walnut Street entrance.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Fairhaven Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Disaster at Sea: Larchmont Remembered

Shipwreck! Join Daniel F. Harrington for a presentation "The Larchmont Remembered: The Suffering, Depravity and Wonder of RI’s Most Horrific Sea Disaster" that tells the tale of the night the Larchmont, a wooden, side-wheel steamship, collided with the Harry Knowlton, a three-masted schooner, just off Block Island in zero-degree weather. The presentation covers the story of the ship, its crew, the passengers and the unbelievable stories of survival, panic, murder and, yes, miracles, using digitally restored photos and eyewitness accounts.

Daniel Harrington is a Director of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame and a popular monthly columnist at the Providence Journal. A Former East Providence City Councilman and founder of Chartwell Wealth Management in Rumford, he now works as a Securities Princpial for MassMutual. Along with his wife, Kristine, and two daughters, he makes his home in historic Pawtuxet Village.

Old Time Fiddle Sessions

Old Time Fiddle Session at the Old Time Holiday
