Lauren Murphy is a Veteran Singer/Songwriter based out of Fairhope, Alabama who boasts nearly two decades of experience in the San Francisco Rock Arena. Compared to Janis Joplin & Grace Slick, Murphy's powerhouse vocals & passion have a grit all her own. Best known for her time in ZERO with Bob Weir guitarist, Steve Kimock and her late husband, The Judge, Lauren has been dubbed "Lady Willpower" by Relix Magazine.

Lauren Murphy is not just a breath of fresh air, but a throw-back to the days of true performance art. She is an essence performer with real 'Star Quality' that reaches a spiritual human connection with her audience. Murphy moves "with" and "into", truly 'becoming' the Music; a sentiment that resonates with anyone lucky enough to experience her solo or with one of her fine ensembles. Lisa Mills takes her audiences on a musical, and often humorous, emotional journey with charm and panache that is melodic, raw, unfettered and, most important, searingly honest: expect blues, country, gospel and soul influences…

The confluence of influences that comprise the namesake river of Lisa Mills’ native Mississippi are indeed “mighty”. However, to lump her interpretation of those blues, country, gospel and soul influences under the catch-all “roots music” moniker is both right…and entirely wrong.

Her defiance of description is what makes Lisa Mills a singular talent. She takes the best of each these genres, whether self-penned or carefully chosen covers that speak to her in some way, and utterly transforms them. By taking all those ingredients and adding the occasional dollop of jazz inflection, Mills serves up her own savoury-sweet mix that goes beyond the expected. The result is at least equal to, often surpassing the historic best that each of those genres have to offer. She is one of those rare artists that, once you’ve heard her, cannot possibly be mistaken for anyone else. For more information, go to lisamills.com/.

WIT & WRATH: The Life & Times of Dorothy Parker
    2:00 PM

A One Woman Show Written and Performed by Claudia Baumgarten and Directed by Diana E.H. Shortes

Dorothy Parker was a wit, a social observer with an acid tongue, a brilliant writer of poetry, short stories, book and drama critiques and a compassionate advocate for the less fortunate.

In Wit & Wrath, Claudia Baumgarten, as Mrs. Parker, skewers, martini in hand, the Jazz Age, her fellow Round Table writers, the cultural desert of Hollywood and especially herself and her tumultuous love life. Wit & Wrath is an edgy, fleshy, literary homage to Mrs. Parker, the most widely read and quoted woman of the 1920s.  Why are her biting theater critiques, incisive social observations and poignant short-stories still relevant and entertaining in the 21st century?  Audiences now have the opportunity to discover why and to appreciate anew the truly phenomenal, outrageous Dorothy Parker and her writings, which have stood the test of time.

Admission is free.  Light refreshments following the performance. For more information, please call (251) 208-7097.

Claudia Baumgarten has had a 10-year romance with the writings of Dorothy Parker.  After having read almost every work written by or about Mrs. Parker, Ms. Baumgarten created this solo show highlighting her fascinating life and memorable work. Wit & Wrath was performed to sold-out audiences at the New Orleans Tennessee Williams Festival in both 2014 and 2015 and at the 2017 Washington, D.C. Capital Fringe Festival.

Claudia has spent three decades performing and creating original work.  A natural story-teller, she also enjoys performing with and for children at schools and libraries. Her newest project is working with Women of the Tricentennial, a troupe of actor/historians in period dress who share the numerous contributions of New Orleans women, past and present, to the City of New Orleans.

Ms. Baumgarten and Ms. Shortes are delighted to bring this original work to Mobile.

People have said that Abe Partridge sounds older than his chronological age, and there’s a very good reason for that – he’s packed a lot of living into his 37 years.

Those experiences, ranging from the earthy to the surreal, the spiritual light to the depths of depression, come together with gripping intensity on Partridge’s second full-length album, Cotton Fields and Blood for Days. Over the course of ten songs, this troubadour draws listeners in with a combination of southern gothic storytelling and a dark humor reminiscent of the late Townes Van Zandt – delivered in a gravelly tone that conjures up images of Tom Waits in his barstool warming days.

Partridge may have a gift for communing with ghosts, but he’s not consumed by them. Listening to him unspool tales like “Prison Tattoos” and “Out of Alabama Blues,” it’s impossible to ignore his knack for separating the wheat from the chaff, the gold from the muck as he ponders the further reaches of the region where he’s spent so much of his life.
