Saturday Book Club
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

November’s Saturday Book Club selection is “The Great Fire,” by Shirley Hazzard.

In the aftermath of World War II, young men and women living in Europe and Asia reconstruct their lives, including a soldier who learns that material goods and success are not enough, and a woman in Japan who tends to her dying brother. - (Baker & Taylor)

The Saturday Book Club has been meeting continually since 2001. We always welcome new members!  Dr. Harold Halbert will lead the discussion.

Copies of the book are available at the Front Desk.

Toastmasters Club
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our organization has more than 345,000 memberships. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 15,900 clubs in 142 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.

The world needs leaders. Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish, they must communicate. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program. Every Toastmasters journey begins with a single speech. During their journey, they learn to tell their stories. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback—and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership.

Our Saturday Book Club selection this month is "The Garden of Evening Mists," by Twan Eng Tan.

Seeking solace in the Malaysian plantations of her childhood after grueling World War II experiences, criminal prosecutor Yun Ling Teoh discovers a Japanese garden and its enigmatic tender, an exiled Japanese royal gardener who reluctantly accepts her as an apprentice. - (Baker & Taylor)

The Saturday Book Club has been meeting continually since 2001. We always welcome new members!  Dr. Harold Halbert will lead the discussion.

We encourage registration. Stop by the Front Desk or call to register.

Copies of the book are available at the Front Desk.
