About the Frick:

Clayton House:

Experience a Season of Celebrations this winter at Clayton.

Enjoy the lavishly decorated home of the Frick Family during this year’s holiday tour of Clayton. Join us as we reimagine the events of 1908, when Helen Clay Frick made her debut into society. Mural-like photo enlargements will immerse visitors in the past, while decorations evoking the splendor of the party will join the traditional poinsettias and greenery of the holiday season to offer a fresh perspective on the Frick family’s Christmas festivities in 1908.

The tour lasts for one hour and begins at the Grable Visitor Center.
Photography is not permitted in Clayton.

The Cafe at the Frick

Specializing in contemporary American cuisine, The Café at the Frick prepares unique, locally-sourced, seasonal fare served in a lush, picturesque environment. The Café offers a one-of-a kind, intimate dining experience.

Car and Carriage Museum

After the turn of the 20th century, the development of the automobile profoundly changed American life. In the Car and Carriage Museum, visitors can travel back to the time of carriages, see some of the first horseless carriages to have an impact on Pittsburgh and learn about Pittsburgh’s role in the developing automobile industry.

Greenhouse and Gardens

The path that winds through the Frick’s 5.5-acre site is lined with lush gardens and a diverse selection of trees. Our active greenhouse is a renovation and partial reconstruction of one that served the Frick family from 1897 through the 1970s.

The Frick Art Museum

Designed by Pittsburgh architects Pratt, Schafer & Slowik, the Italian Renaissance-style Frick Art Museum was built by founder Helen Clay Frick to house her collection of fine and decorative arts, as well as paintings, sculpture and porcelains that she had inherited from her father. Strengths of the collection include French 18th-century painting and decorative arts, early Italian Renaissance painting, Renaissance and Baroque bronzes, and extraordinary Chinese porcelains.

Frick Museum Store:

Located in the Grable Visitor Center, the Frick Museum Store offers a carefully curated product line reflecting the distinctive character of the Frick.

Mystery Readers Book Club

This group reads selections from a wide variety of mystery genres.

IQ / Joe Ide

East Long Beach. The LAPD is barely keeping up with the neighborhood's high crime rate. Murders go unsolved, lost children unrecovered.  Someone from the neighborhood has taken it upon himself to help solve the cases the police can't or won't touch.  They call him IQ.  He's a loner and a high school dropout, his unassuming nature disguising a relentless determination and a fierce intelligence.  He charges his clients whatever they can afford, which might be a set of tires or a homemade casserole.  This time, it's a rap mogul whose life is in danger. As Isaiah investigates, he encounters a vengeful ex-wife, a crew of notorious cutthroats, a monstrous attack dog, and a hit man who even other hit men say is a lunatic. The deeper Isaiah digs, the more dangerous the case becomes.

Beginners Irish Gaelic

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN TIME

Join us for an adventure in learning Irish Gaelic, “Gaeilge” or just “Irish” as it is known on the emerald isle, Saturdays, here at the Mt. Lebanon Library.

This course is aimed at developing basic conversational skills with no previous knowledge assumed. We will be using the online Buntus Cainte (Fundamentals of Speech) course as a basis for the lessons and a subscription will be included free for all who sign up. Additional notes on turns of phrase, points of grammar, etc. will accompany each lesson.

Irish is the original language of Ireland and has had a difficult history.  Outlawed for many years under pain of death, it was kept alive and still exists today as the first language in different areas of the country.  It has been recently undergoing somewhat of a resurgence as it is now becoming more popular among the youth.

Irish is one of the Celtic languages, which include Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, Breton, Cornish and Manx. This class of languages is rather unique and unrelated to other modern languages.

Note:This class will begin at 1:15 p.m. as the library opens at 1:00 p.m.

Vinyasa Yoga consists of  flowing movements synchronized to your breath rhythm.  Modifications and intensification will be offered to meet the needs of beginner students as well as those with a seasoned yoga practice.
