This 8 week session will teach the student how to apply the drawing concepts and techniques of the great Masters, specifically from the mid 16th century ( Renaissance ) to the mid 17th century ( Baroque )in Europe. The Inheritance with author Niki Kapsambelis

Journalist (and Mt. Lebanon resident) Niki Kapsambelis will discuss her first book, "The Inheritance," which was published by Simon & Schuster in March. It is a non-fiction book following a multigenerational family from North Dakota stricken with an extremely rare genetic mutation that guarantees them early-onset Alzheimer's, typically in their 40s. Their contributions to research are inching science closer to a cure.  The book has been featured on the Today Show with Maria Shriver, People magazine, the New York Times, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Tribune, as well as SIrius XM's "Doctor Radio" program and the online magazine Salon.

Kirkus Reviews named The Inheritance one of the best nonfiction books of 2017.

Nicki will discuss the book -- and the broader issue of Alzheimer's -- with the audience.

Beginners Irish Gaelic

Join us for an adventure in learning Irish Gaelic, “Gaeilge” or just “Irish” as it is known on the emerald isle, Saturdays, here at the Mt. Lebanon Library.

This course is aimed at developing basic conversational skills with no previous knowledge assumed. We will be using the online Buntus Cainte (Fundamentals of Speech) course as a basis for the lessons and a subscription will be included free for all who sign up. Additional notes on turns of phrase, points of grammar, etc. will accompany each lesson.

Irish is the original language of Ireland and has had a difficult history.  Outlawed for many years under pain of death, it was kept alive and still exists today as the first language in different areas of the country.  It has been recently undergoing somewhat of a resurgence as it is now becoming more popular among the youth.

Irish is one of the Celtic languages, which include Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, Breton, Cornish and Manx. This class of languages is rather unique and unrelated to other modern languages.

This 8 week session will teach the student how to apply the drawing concepts and techniques of the great Masters, specifically from the mid 16th century ( Renaissance ) to the mid 17th century ( Baroque )in Europe. Our instructor, James Sulkowski is a classical artist in the tradition of the Masters. His adherence to Old Master concepts and techniques gives his work both timeless and luminous qualities.

His dramatic effects of light and use of deep, rich color have attracted private, corporate and public collectors worldwide including former President and Mrs. George H.W.
