Art Exhibit: Pli by Pascale Lord

Pascale Lord - Hope“Pli,” an exhibit of acrylic paintings and mixed media works by Pascale Lord, will be on display at the Nashua Public Library from March 2 to 30.
    
Over the years, the artist says, canvas has come to represent a woman’s skin to her, to which she adds wrinkles, lines, and pleats. (“Pli,” the title of the exhibit, is the French word for “fold.”)

“As women,” she explains, “we have to accept that our body, our skin, is changing, modifying, reflecting traces of time or hardship and aging. Perfection is a myth, but beauty can reveal itself in different ways.”

The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours. In addition, the artist will hold a reception on Thursday, March 14, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Seven Steps to Managing Your Memory

Dr. Andrew Budson, a neurology professor at Boston University and author of Seven Steps to Managing Your Memory, will address questions like: What are the signs of normal aging? What are the markers of mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and Alzheimer’s? What medicines, alternative therapies, diets, and exercises are available to improve your memory? Ukulele Concert: Bryan Tolentino

Bryan Tolentino began teaching himself the ukulele at age 10. His early influences were Sons of Hawaii and Sunday Manoa. After graduating from Saint Louis School in 1979, he and friends formed the Side Order Band. His repertoire mixes Hawaiian, contemporary, and original songs, blending creativity and diversity.

Bryan has performed with the late Aunty Genoa Keawe, Karen Keawehawai’i, Jerry Santos and Olomana, Natalie Ai Kamauu, Napua Greig, Kuana Torres Kahele, Aaron Sala, Weldon Kekauoha, Hoku Zuttermeister and many more. He also found himself in growing demand for his contributions to dozens of recordings. He  released his  solo album “Ka ‘Ukulele Lele” in 2005 and a duet recording with Herb Ohta Jr., “Ukulele Friends,” in 2015.

Spring Book Retreat: The Remains of the Day

Get away for a day to talk about The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, watch the film inspired by the book, and then compare the two. Lunch provided by the Friends of the Library. The City of Nashua Division of Public Health will offer Immunizations on the second Wednesday of every month. The following immunizations will be available for $10 per person:

  • Pneumonia
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Td (Tetanus, Diphtheria)
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Pertussis, Diphtheria)

Influenza (flu) shots are $15 for adults and free for children.

Blood pressure screening: Free
