Memoir Writing Workshops

How many of you have said “I wish my parents, grandparents, etc., had written down some of the stories they told me?”  You have memories about your life that shouldn’t be left to others’ memories.  The Friends of the New Bedford Free Public Library is offering a free memoir writing workshop.  During monthly gatherings participants will be able to write and share memories of their lives.  During each session a topic, provided by the facilitator or participant input, will be presented.  Topics could include your earliest memory, happy and not-so-happy events in your life, trips taken, family gatherings, etc..  After being given time to write, participants will be invited to share and comment on each others’ memories.  This may garner discussion which will generate other ideas for future sessions.  All comments will be non-judgmental and encouraged.  Everyone is welcome and it is not necessary to attend each session, come as your time and interest allow. An attempt will be made to announce the next month’s topic so the participants will be able to decide if it is of interest and gather their memories which may include newspaper articles, documents, photographs, etc..

The facilitator is Diane Duprey, president of the Friends of the New Bedford Free Public Library.  The Memoir Writing Workshops will be held on the second Wednesday of each month from 3:30-4:30 pm in the Meeting Room on the 3rd floor of the Main Library.  All that’s needed are writing materials and your memories.  Join us for this journey down memory lane.
