Kate Kayaian Performs on Cello

Cellist Kate Kayaian will return to the library to perform solo works by Bach, Harbison, Hovaness and Cassado. Kate Kayaian is known for her stunning artistry and her passion for collaboration. Following her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, she won a three-year fellowship with the New World Symphony where she performed as principal cellist under the baton of Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas.

Johnson String Quartet

Klezmer and More

They will perform well- known Israeli, Yiddish and Hanukah tunes, some of the most popular Y2klez CD tunes and some American swing and blues numbers. 

Bill Wise is a composer of klezmer and other genres. Barry Shapiro taught in the New England Conservatory preparatory department for over 20 years. Currently he teaches a klezmer ensemble and gives private lessons.

World Music - India, the Works of Rabindranath Tagore

Nobel prize winning poet, writer, painter, thinker, maverick educational reformer and perhaps the greatest songwriter of all times - Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) - remains a revered figure in both Bangladesh and India. His songs depict a sublime oneness with nature, the universal and bridge differences in race, religion and color. For this performance Ms. Chakraborty will present Tagore's compositions accompanied by live music and a power-point presentation with translations of his lyrics (originally written in Bengali) in English. This program is part of the Newton Festival of the Arts.
