Pause: take a moment to take care of you
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Throughout the course of providing therapy to clients, Therapist and Clinical Consultant Sarah Hamelin, whose practice is located in Northborough, has found some similar themes. The main theme is that people avoid emotions as much as possible. Ms. Hamelin has written a book entitled Pause: Take a moment to take care of you. In her book, on which this presentation is based, she provides a lot of the tools that she teaches in sessions to help people take care of themselves better emotionally so that they can enjoy life more. The main theme is for people to take a “pause” and be aware of what is going on for them you so they can manage their emotions and their ability to communicate better.

Ms. Hamelin is passionate about this work because of our fast-paced culture. If people start to become emotional they often get labeled as “crazy” or “out of control.” This has led to people completely ignoring their emotions until they can’t avoid them anymore and it becomes a bigger problem. According to Ms. Hamelin, her goal is to teach people to not avoid emotions but instead, to become better at feeling them and managing them.

Intended audience: Adults who are interested learning more about their emotional selves and how to be an emotional person in a way that allows them to be heard. The goal for audience members to start to think about what it means to pause before you react emotionally and how that can be beneficial and how they can do it in their own lives. The goal of this presentation is to get people to start to think differently. To think about how detrimental it is to hold in emotions as well as to only speak with emotions and how to find a happy medium.

For more information, call the Northborough Free Library at 508-393-5025 or visit www.northboroughlibrary.org. No registration is required. Refreshments will be served.
