Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Wellbeing
9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Mindfulness for Stress Reduction and Wellbeing led by instructor Ginny Wholley (THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED!)

A four class series January 22-February 12th—9:30 am - 12 pm

Mindfulness is a moment-to-moment awareness arising from the practice of paying attention to what is. The benefits of practicing mindfulness are far reaching.  The latest research on general health and wellbeing puts mindfulness practices at the top of the list for health promotion; along with sleep, good nutrition and exercise.

This four class series will be led by authorized mindfulness instructor and trainer Ginny Wholley. In the course of the series, participants will become acquainted with mindfulness practices such as mindful breathing, body scan, and yoga, and will develop an awareness in how they normally react to stressful stimulus and ways that they can change their automatic stress response. The series will explore ways of integrating mindfulness into one’s life so that participants can maintain a consistent yet flexible practice.

Participants will need to attend all four classes of the series. Registration for the series opens December 28th. A registration fee of $40 is due before the first class. Participants should bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing.

The Northborough Free Library is offering a new 6-part series of classes on Photoshop FUN: Review of Basics & More on Tuesday evenings from 6:45 pm – 8:15 pm from February 20th - April 3rd, 2018. The classes will be held in the Library’s Conference Room located on the main floor. The classes are open to those aged 14 and older who are interested in learning how to use Photoshop Elements to edit their photographs. The classes will be taught by photographer Jeanine Vitale whose studio, Prism Point Photography, is located in Northborough. The following topics will be covered in the classes:

  • Review of basics: Cropping, burning, dodging
  • Clone tools, selection tools, edit/transform
  • Basic layers
  • New ideas: Blend modes, reflections and shadows, handling type, paths and shape layers, actions

Note: Photoshop Elements 2018 MUST BE PURCHASED prior to the first class. The cost is $27/license. Older versions are also acceptable.

Please also note: There will be no class held on March 13th.

Those interested in registering for the series can register online via the Library’s website at www.northboroughlibrary.org or call Adult Services at 508-393-5025 x5. Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged!

Photoshop editing is a marvelous tool and is as essential to photography today as a good camera. It’s used to enhance and “fix” portraits and scenery (i.e. removing facial imperfections or straightening a horizon) as well as creating art works.

Jeanine Vitale has at various points in her artistic career been an opera singer, choral conductor, make-up artist, artistic director, dancer and choreographer. Her solid background in the performing arts has given her an ear to hear and an eye to see and remember the stories of life unfolding around her. The camera’s eye is the continuation and extension of her artist’s soul and skills.

Prism Point Photography, formed in 2005, is Ms. Vitale’s commercial studio for portrait work, events, theatrical photography and fine art photography. Feeling strongly about giving back to the community, she also photographs for various charities: Rebuilding Together Worcester, the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury, the Northborough Free Library and others. Her memberships include BNI (Business Networkers International), ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers), the Women’s Art Forum in Hopkinton and the Arts Alliance in Hudson. Her work currently can be seen at the Danforth Art Museum gift shop, Petersham Craft Center, private collections and on her website. Ms. Vitale also has taught singing for over 30 years and continues to do so at her studio in Northborough.

If you have any questions about the classes, including how to purchase and obtain a licensed copy of Photoshop Elements, please contact Jeanine Vitale directly at jeanine.vitale@gmail.com and she will be happy to answer them.

There are 12 spaces available.
