Marketing the Presidency
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Many people think of marketing as a relatively modern term, but presidential candidates have been marketing themselves – and their ideas – since the inception of our nation. Steve Mihaly has been collecting political Americana for more than 50 years, with a collection that now encompasses more than 20,000 items!

Join Steve Mihaly as he shares some of the more whimsical items in his collection, including:

* A James Monroe snuffbox, promoting the Monroe doctrine

* A Teddy Roosevelt cast iron door stop

* An Eisenhower bar of soap, stating “Clean Up With Ike”

* A Richard Nixon shower head

Explore the oddities in his collection, while discovering why these items were produced and what their historical significance is. Advance registration is required.

Voices From the Attic: a Civil War Presentation
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Imagine clearing out your family attic and discovering an enormous collection of letters written by two soldiers during the Civil War, but not knowing why the letters were there.

Faced with that situation, Carleton Young spent more than a decade visiting battlefields and researching the two Vermont soldiers. In Voices From the Attic: The Williamstown Boys in the Civil War, he tells the story of two brothers who witnessed and made history by fighting in the Peninsula Campaign, then at South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and Cedar Creek. They then preserved that history through their surprisingly detailed and insightful letters.

Join Northern Tier Regional Library and Carleton Young for this Civil War presentation. Registration is required.

There are many spaces available.
