Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Self-Publishing (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Featuring Publishing Expert Steven Porter

With recent advances in technology, self-publishing has become reachable for more writers than ever before. But new authors quickly realize they can’t go it alone -- they need editors, illustrators, publicists, readers and others to fully realize their goals.

This presentation is for casual writers, business professionals, and others who think that publishing a book will enhance their lives either personally or professionally. It will answer the scariest of questions, such as, “Where can I turn for help?”, “How do I not get ripped-off” and, “Can I really make money at this?”

About Our Speaker: Steven R. Porter - Stillwater River Publications

Steven is the author of the critically-acclaimed crime thriller “Confessions of the Meek & the Valiant,” the award-winning historical novel “Manisses” based on the legends and rich history of Block Island, and a self-help guide on overcoming panic and anxiety, “Scared to Death... Do It Anyway.”  In 2011, he founded the non-profit Association of Rhode Island Authors (ARIA) to help promote, market and sell the state’s best books throughout the region and the country. He and his wife Dawn are the founders of Stillwater River Publications and Stillwater Books in Pawtucket, RI where they have helped over 100 authors publish their work.

"A study at Tufts University found that students who read to dogs have better outcomes than students who read to humans.

They experienced a slight gain in reading ability and attitudes toward reading, while those who read to people experienced a

decrease on both measures. Even more noticeable, there was no attrition in the dog group, while one third of those reading

to humans failed to complete the program"- Library Journal

Need to practice your reading?  Well it starts here with Tinkerbell and Wendy, the Pawtucket Library therapy dogs!

Join the girls (including their human mom Dawn) and watch your reading improve along with your confidence at public speaking.*

Appointments are in 15 minute blocks, please call or email the library in advance.

Read to Therapy Dogs Tinker Bell and Wendy

Need to practice your reading?  Well it starts here with Tinkerbell and Wendy, the Pawtucket Library therapy dogs!

Join the girls (including their human mom Dawn) and watch your reading improve along with your confidence at public speaking.*

Appointments are in 15 minute blocks, please call or email the library in advance.

"A study at Tufts University found that students who read to dogs have better outcomes than students who read to humans.

They experienced a slight gain in reading ability and attitudes toward reading, while those who read to people experienced a

decrease on both measures. Even more noticeable, there was no attrition in the dog group, while one third of those reading

to humans failed to complete the program"- Library Journal
