Adopt-a-Book

Adopt-a-Book will run from October 24th till December 31st, 2019.

You can stop in and browse our collection of titles in need of adoption to help build the library’s book collection during all library operating hours.

Each adopted book will receive a commemorative book plate in which the adopting patron can inscribe any dedication, or inspirational message they would like for the public to see for generations to come and the adopting patron can be the first to check the book out of the library with its new inscription.

An assortment of new releases will be available including fiction, non-fiction, young adult, children’s, and Spanish for patrons to "adopt" (purchase) for the library.

Job Club

Are you looking for a job, or plan to begin looking soon? Come to the Public Library of New London Job Club! You can strengthen your job search skills, improve your resume, learn about job openings in New London, and connect with other job seekers in a low-key environment. Computers are available for working on your job search or resume, and our librarian is on hand to answer questions and provide guidance.

The club meets on alternating Friday mornings, and registration is not required. Please contact Tom Kramer, tkramer@plnl.org, with any questions.

Infant Story Time with Baby Cafe

Drop in and spend time with other breastfeeding moms, and take an opportunity to ask our IBCLC, CLC, and Peer Counselor your breastfeeding questions! Baby Cafe is aimed towards new mothers, nursing moms and pregnant women; however, it is open to everyone who is interested in learning about how to support breastfeeding.

There will also be a brief storytime led by the children's department!

Halloween Parade

Join us from 11:00 to 1:00 for Halloween themed games activities! We will also have a trick-or-treat parade throughout the library where kids can get candy, stickers and more from all the different departments!

Gentle Yoga
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Join us for a free, family-friendly yoga class! The yoga session will last for 40 minutes, followed by an option 10-minute meditation practice. A healthy snack will be provided after the session.

Recommendations:
•Attire can be athletic or loose comfortable clothing.
•Yoga mat or thick padding for kneeling if needed.

Although children are encouraged to participate there will be an optional activity table available while session occurs.

Computer Basics 1: Intro to Microsoft Word

Computers and technology are complicated, and getting started using them can be overwhelming. We're here to help.

In this class, participants will learn the basics of the word-processing software Microsoft Word, including:

  1. The main components
  2. How to copy/paste text
  3. What the toolbar is
  4. How to edit and format text
  5. Using language tools (spell check, dictionary, and thesaurus)

This is a beginner-level class, but participants should be comfortable using a computer mouse.

Children birth to 5 are invited to join us Monday mornings at 10:30am for story time fun!  There will be songs, stories, rhymes, movement activities and  more!  Following story time there will be a craft and open play.  This program will teach childen a love of learning and will offer parents/caregivers early literacy tips to use at home.
