Bilingual Story Time

Children birth to 5 years old are invited to join Ms. Margarita every Tuesday morning at 10:30 am at the Public Library of New London for a bilingual story time. We will share stories, songs and more in English and Spanish. Immediately following the story time there will be a craft and free play. This program is free and will be held weekly.

Safe Futures Parenting Classes

Drop in and spend time with other breastfeeding moms, and take an opportunity to ask our IBCLC, CLC, and Peer Counselor your breastfeeding questions! Baby Cafe is aimed towards new mothers, nursing moms and pregnant women; however, it is open to everyone who is interested in learning about how to support breastfeeding.

Immigration Talk with IASC

Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) is a nonprofit immigration center that provides low cost, high quality immigration related legal services and works to educate communities in eastern Connecticut on immigration law and policy.  Join us as IASC will be here to answer questions and update you on current legal immigration issues. We will discuss many important steps in the immigration process, including:

  • How to obtain and renew a green card 
  • How to obtain a work permit
  • How to become a citizen

Restricted Funding: Identification of Need through Proposal Writing

Workshop Goal: Introduce tools to identify your funding needs, align those needs to a potential funder, create the necessary program details, cultivate the funding relationship, write your letter of intent, grant and report.  The purpose of the workshop is to give you an overview of the details and success strategies to identify and cultivate strong funding relationship of your nonprofit. The Connecticut College Arboretum is hosting a public presentation of the results of the summer urban forest inventory. Isabelle Smith, Connecticut College botany major, was an intern for the city over the summer documenting the municipal trees (streets, schools and parks). She has spent the fall analyzing the information and will share her results.

Black History Month Film Series: Against All Odds: The Fight for a Black Middle Class

We are a group of writers who meet up to share, discuss and critique one another’s work using constructive criticism. Whether your goal is to publish, to have personal work reviewed, or to meet writing friends, all are welcome! Bring a pen, paper, all of your best ideas, and work of your own (several copies please).

The Supper Book Club meets monthly, usually the second Monday of the month.

Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk one month before the meeting date and are due back the evening of the book discussion.  Food is ordered from a local restaurant, often reflecting a theme in the book, and is delivered to the library. The menu is available at the Circulation Desk and is emailed to all club members. Selections from the menu should be made by 1:00 PM the day of the meeting and phoned or emailed to the library. Club members pay for their meal at the book club. Participants may also bring their own supper or snack. Water, coffee and tea are provided by the library. The facilitator for the evening provides dessert.

Join us for this library program featuring books, arts & crafts, movies and more! All adults are welcome to attend, though sessions are designed specifically to meet the needs of adults with disabilities. Empower Together presents an opportunity for the participants to continue pursuing their natural desire to learn, experience stories, and share opinions and feelings.

Richard Foye: Author Talk
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Richard Foye, local author and former New London High School administrator, will give a talk at the Public Library of New London about his book Foye and the Filipinos: Bailout, Escape, and Rescue of a Navy Fighter Pilot in World War II Luzon. The book is written about his father, William "Bill" Foye, a U.S. Navy Aviator who was shot down over the Philippines during WWII and rescued by the people of Luzon. It is a tale of survival, bravery, sacrifice, and love.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event. All proceeds beyond the cost of printing will go to the Bill Foye Philippine Scholarship Fund. A copy of the book is also available for checkout at the library. 

This event is free and open to the public.

Drop in and spend time with other breastfeeding moms, and take an opportunity to ask our IBCLC, CLC, and Peer Counselor your breastfeeding questions! Baby Cafe USA is aimed towards new mothers, nursing moms and pregnant women; however, it is open to everyone who is interested in learning about how to support breastfeeding.

From 10:30am till 11:30am the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center will be bringing a live animal to introduce to the children.  We will share a story about the animal, sing some songs, and learn some simple facts.

Supper Book Club: Deepest Well by Nadia Burke Harris

Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk one month before the meeting date and are due back the evening of the book discussion.  Food is ordered from a local restaurant, often reflecting a theme in the book, and is delivered to the library. The menu is available at the Circulation Desk and is emailed to all club members. Selections from the menu should be made by 1:00 PM the day of the meeting and phoned or emailed to the library. Club members pay for their meal at the book club. Participants may also bring their own supper or snack. Water, coffee and tea are provided by the library. The facilitator for the evening provides dessert.

The Public Library of New London will be hosting its 4th Annual Local Authors Fest in our Adult Reading area.

Authors from Southeastern Connecticut will be on hand to talk to you about their books and sign and take photos. Authors of fiction, nonfiction, Young Adult literature, Children's literature, romance, history and mystery will be here. It's a great event for all ages! Midafternoon, several authors will speak to the public about their work, and their experience publishing their books.

Whether you are an author, an avid reader, a fan of local talent, or a community event connoisseur, please stop by and get to know some great local authors, hear about their backgrounds and latest releases, support the community, and own original signed copies of authors on the rise.

Baby Cafe USA with Story Time Starter for Babies

Drop in and spend time with other breastfeeding moms, and take an opportunity to ask our IBCLC, CLC, and Peer Counselor your breastfeeding questions! Baby Cafe USA is aimed towards new mothers, nursing moms and pregnant women; however, it is open to everyone who is interested in learning about how to support breastfeeding.

From 10:30am till 11:30am the Children's Department will be doing a Story Time best suited for infants from birth to 12 months.  Siblings are welcome.

Healthy snack provided after session.

Recommendations:
•Attire can be athletic or loose comfortable clothing.
•Yoga mat or thick padding for kneeling if needed.

Although children are encouraged to participate there will be an optional activity table available while session occurs.

We are a group of writers who meet up to share, discuss and critique one another’s work using constructive criticism. Children birth to 5 years old are invited to join us every Monday morning at 10:30 am for story time fun. There will be books, songs, rhymes, movement activities, and more! This program will help teach children a love of learning and will offer parents/caregivers early literacy tips to use at home. There will be a playgroup immediately following the story time.

The New London Community Orchestra is pleased to offer free violin lessons at the Public Library of New London!  The lessons will be 30 minutes long and held every Monday and Wednesday (you must committ to both days).

We will share stories, songs and more in English and Spanish. Immediately following the story time there will be a craft and free play. This program is free and will be held weekly.

Baby Cafe USA with Story Time Starter for Babies

Drop in and spend time with other breastfeeding moms, and take an opportunity to ask our IBCLC, CLC, and Peer Counselor your breastfeeding questions! Baby Cafe USA is aimed towards new mothers, nursing moms and pregnant women; however, it is open to everyone who is interested in learning about how to support breastfeeding.

From 10:30am till 11:30am the Children's Department will be doing a Story Time best suited for infants from birth to 12 months.  Siblings are welcome.

Creative Writers of NL County

We are a group of writers who meet up to share, discuss and critique one another’s work using constructive criticism. Whether your goal is to publish, to have personal work reviewed, or to meet writing friends, all are welcome! Bring a pen, paper, all of your best ideas, and work of your own (several copies please).

Sessions are held in the library's Children's Reading room, so you may bring your kiddos of all ages and we can let them play during our discussions.
