Adriance Honors

At the annual Adriance Honors gala, the Friends of PPLD will present awards to two longtime volunteers whose efforts have helped the Library District grow to new heights. Honorary Chair Frank Van Zanten.

About our Honorees:

Jerry Vittone has volunteered for the Friends for over ten years, starting when the Book Store was located in an abandoned ice house. Jerry works each week in the warehouse, where he processes an average of three pallets’ worth of donated books each day alongside his well-deserving colleagues.

A former auto mechanic, Jerry worked as a technician at IBM in Fishkill before retiring in 2007. He enjoys reading books about cars and local history, which he credits with helping him settle into Poughkeepsie after moving here from Pittsfield, MA as a teenager. He enjoys restoring classic cars and also volunteers at the VFW Auxiliary.

Ruth Wally worked as an early childhood educator before opening the Clock Man Gallery in the Poughkeepsie Plaza, which she ran with her late husband, Bruce, for 22 years. It was there that she began exhibiting work by local artists alongside fine clocks, antiques, and pottery. After retirement, Ruth volunteered to bring exhibitions to the Art Wall at the Boardman Road Branch Library shortly after its opening in 2015. A self-taught lover of art, she was also an early proponent of what is now the Poughkeepsie Book Festival and remains active at the Center for Lifetime Study at Marist College. Ruth is grateful to her friend and mentor Debbie Bein and all of the artists across the Hudson Valley who have volunteered to exhibit on the Art Wall over the years.

Tickets can be purchased online here.
