Meet the Author: Gary Clendennen

Gary will speak about his book 'Friends Along the Falkill: Growing Up in Poughkeepsie in the 1950s.'

Gary W. Clendennen graduated from Poughkeepsie H.S. in 1961, left town in 1963, and did not return to the city until 2012. He received an MA  in German history from the University of Minnesota in 1971, an MLS. (Library Service) from Rutgers State in 1973, and his Ph.D. in African history from Edinburgh University in 1978. His writings include over 50 books and articles published in nine different countries, on subjects such as history, baseball, travel, and birdwatching, and others. SP4 Clendennen spent 1970 as a soldier in Viet-Nam, and is currently preparing for print the journal he kept that year.

Shred Free Day @ Your Library

Locally owned, Legal Shred is happy to partner with the Poughkeepsie Public Library to help educate the community and facilitate best practices for identity theft prevention.  Witness the shredding on our color monitor mounted to the side panel of the truck for the highest security.  Limit 2-3 boxes/bags per person.  Acceptable material to be shred:  paper (white or colored), plastic ID cards, carbon paper, computer disks, empty prescription bottles, file folders, credit cards, CDs/DVDs, microfilm/ microfiche, staples and paper clips, old checkbooks.

Movies Under the Walkway

The Library District collaborates with the Millman Foundation, the Walkway, City Parks, and others to host a series of outdoor summer movies for families. These Saturday evenings start with live music from 7 to 8 pm, with the movies scheduled to start at dusk. Kids activities and food trucks are expected each evening from 7 to 8:30 pm.  Families should bring their own chairs or blankets to enjoy a fun evening at Upper Landing Park (N. Water Street - next to the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum).
