Book: The Sacrifice of Darkness by Roxane Gay and Tracy Lynne Oliver
Follow the journey of two young adults, Joshua and Claire, each individually shaped by the day the sky went dark, but drawn to each other because of it. Coming of age in this new landscape, they will be forced to confront and challenge notions of identity, guilt, and survival as the darkness grows around them. When fear threatens to envelop all hope they have left, the two discover that love, family, and finding the true light in a world seemingly robbed of any, will guide their way forward.
Registration required, click here to register. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

In this "impassioned and painfully relevant" history, Pulitzer Prize finalist Philip Dray reconstructs a long-overlooked episode of racialized violence north of the Mason-Dixon Line: the 1892 lynching of a young Black man, Robert Lewis, by a violent mob in Port Jervis, New York. Drawing on previously untapped sources, Dray chronicles a crime that sent shockwaves through the nation, helping to galvanize Ida B. Wells's anti-lynching crusade and forcing the North to reckon with its own racism, before, over the ensuing decades, it was determinedly and deliberately forgotten. The result is "an illuminating and distressing look at America’s history of racial violence," and a meditation on what happens when justice is left undone, and the past unresolved.
Philip Dray is the author of several books of American cultural and political history, including At the Hands of Persons Unknown: The Lynching of Black America, which won the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He is an adjunct professor in the Journalism + Design Department at Eugene Lang College. He lives in Brooklyn.

Join us at Juan Murphy's Pub, 796 Main Street, to discuss Reckless Girls, by Rachel Hawkins.
Beautiful, wild, and strange--Meroe Island is a desolate spot in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with a mysterious history of shipwrecks, cannibalism, and even rumors of murder. It's the perfect destination for the most adventurous traveler to escape everything... except the truth. Six stunning twentysomethings are about to embark on a blissful, free-spirited journey--one filled with sun-drenched days and intoxicating nights. But as it becomes clear that the group is even more cut off from civilization than they initially thought, it starts to feel like the island itself is closing in, sending them on a dangerous spiral of discovery. When one person goes missing and another turns up dead, the remaining friends wonder what dark currents lie beneath this impenetrable paradise--and who else will be swept under its secluded chaos.
