In 1939, 20,000 Americans rallied in New York’s Madison Square Garden to celebrate the rise of Nazism – an event largely forgotten from American history. A Night at the Garden, made entirely from archival footage filmed that night, transports audiences to this chilling gathering and shines a light on anti-Semitism and the power of demagoguery in the United States.

Brian Tervenski, Professor of English will offer us a non-pedantic English Course, Poetry 101.  This course offers an introduction to the poems of writers ranging from Bob Dylan to William Shakespeare, from Robert Frost to Ben Jonson.  In Poetry 101, we will not, in the words of the poet Billie Collins, “tie the poem to a chair with rope, and torture a confession out of it…. to find out what it really means.”  We will focus on “how” a poem means, and endeavor to read as many good poems as possible and develop skills and techniques to more fully enjoy and appreciate poetry.
