PPL Book Club - The Hate U Give
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Book Discussion led by Library Associate, Kate Gomes, "The Hate U Give" by Angie Thomas

“With smooth but powerful prose delivered in Starr’s natural, emphatic voice, finely nuanced characters, and intricate and realistic relationship dynamics, this novel will have readers rooting for Starr and opening their hearts to her friends and family. This story is necessary. This story is important.” – Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

“Though Thomas’s story is heartbreakingly topical, its greatest strength is in its authentic depiction of a teenage girl, her loving family, and her attempts to reconcile what she knows to be true about their lives with the way those lives are depicted—and completely undervalued—by society at large.” –Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Join us on April 25th, to discuss this award winning novel! No registration required. Copies are available at the circulation desk.

Tuesday Night Movie - A Dog's Purpose (G)
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Come celebrate National Pet Month with us by watching A Dog’s Purpose, the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. The family film told from the dog’s perspective also stars Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, John Ortiz, Peggy Lipton, Juliet Rylance, Luke Kirby, Pooch Hall and Dennis Quaid. Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog's Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose. The movie is based on Bruce Cameron's best-selling novel, A Dog’s Purpose: A Novel For Humans.

Enjoy the movie with free popcorn!

Prose to Poetry: Writing for Seniors and Friends
1:30 PM - 4:15 PM

Whether you're writing memoir or poetry, formulating your material into prosaic form is an art.  Learn from Judith Campbell, author of the Olympia Brown mystery series, how to craft your work.  Prose Poetry is one of those wonderful categories of poetic writing which has almost no rules and almost anyone can do it. We might call it poetry for the fainthearted and poetically challenged. Others would say it is a new creative avenue for poetic expression. Basically, it’s a letter or an essay or even a newspaper article with all of the extra words removed and the good ones re-arranged so that what remains is clear and to the point without being forced to conform to rhyme or meter.  Group sharing is always optional....come and write or come and listen, you are welcome to do either or a little of both....just come.  Please bring writing materials and a highlighter with you.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Tuesday Night Movie - The Glass Castle (PG-13)
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

An all-star cast shines in this inspiring film based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by Jeannette Walls.  Jeannette (Brie Larson) had a poor but wildly adventurous childhood, raised by her free-spirited father (Woody Harrelson) and her mother (Naomi Watts), an eccentric artist. But when her father's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, Jeannette must find the courage to live on her own terms in this uplifting story of unconditional love. This amazing true story has made the book a perennial title on school summer reading lists - so we are showing it this month in honor of the coming of summer!

Enjoy the movie with free popcorn!

Tuesday Night Movie - Little Shop of Horrors
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Rick Moranis plays nerdy Seymour Krelborn in this lavish 1986 musical based on the Broadway Play. Seymour works in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row. While his boss (Vincent Gardenia) bemoans the lack of business, Seymour seeks a way of bringing the shop -- and himself -- fame and fortune. He purchases a strange plant from an even stranger oriental street vendor (Vincent Wong), naming the plant after his girlfriend Audrey (Ellen Greene). Gradually, Seymour learns to his horror that "Audrey II" (given the voice of R&B performer Levi Stubbs) craves blood and flesh. With each of Audrey II's "FEEED MEEE"s, Seymour must scare up human food to satisfy the plant's appetite. One such victim is dentist Steve Martin, a leather-jacketed Elvis type. - 1 hour, 34 minutes - Rated PG-13
